SCORE Awards Night showing airing on the SCORE website and through the SCORE social media platforms.
The 2021 SCORE Awards show remains available on the SCORE website at www.SCORE-International.com, the SCORE You Tube channel and the SCORE facebook page.
The 49-page digital event commemorative program previews the show and salutes the 2021 SCORE point champions in text, images and embedded videos. It is available on the SCORE website and at this direct link 2021SCOREAwardsdigitalprogram.
SCORE Off-Roadsman of the Year awards were officially presented in 14 categories along with the 55 winners of the Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards, presented by VP Racing Fuels, as well as the overall and class point champions of the pandemic-abbreviate two-race 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship.
The streamed event, with the gregarious Rat Sult as the host once again, was also a celebration of 48 years of SCORE championship desert racing.
“We want to sincerely acknowledge the support, assistance and sacrifices made by family members, friends and sponsors–because without their support, the accomplishments of our racers in the series would not have been possible,” commented Jim Ryan, SCORE Marketing and Sales Director. “Becoming a SCORE overall or class point champion, winning a coveted SCORE Off-Roadsman Award or a Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Award, presented by VP Racing Fuels, are all achievements of the highest degree in our beloved sport.” SCORE PERSON OF THE YEAR
SCORE President/Race Director Jose A. Grijalva and SCORE General Manager Juan Tintos Funcke teamed up to honor Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marquez as the 2021 SCORE Person of the Year.
A leader in Mexico’s tourism industry for over 40 years, in November of 2019, with the support of Baja California Senator Gerado Novelo, the Mexican Federal Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) signed an unprecedented stragetic alliance with SCORE, a distinction only achieved by NASCAR and Formula One.
Through this joint effort the Mexico promotional brand and the SCORE World Desert Chamionship have been positioned on a national and international level and the SCORE races have been recognized for their important contribution both to Baja California as well as Mexico.
Tintos Funcke commented, “SCORE International is proud to name Miguel Torruco Marquez Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism as the 2021 SCORE Person of the Year for his important support and facilitation to organize our four races in such a challenging year.” 3rd SCORE LEGACY AWARD
Another major part of the evening was the presentation of the SCORE Legacy Award given posthumously to hard-working Ensenada tourism official Oscar Kawanishi.
With a storied and legendary career in tourism and business in Ensenada, Kawanishi was 71 years old when he passed from a cardiac arrest while in a Tijuana hospital last September.
“Oscar was one of the greatest friends and supporters in the Ensenada tourism sector that SCORE ever had during much of its 48-year-history,” said SCORE President Jose A. Grijalva. “He was an extremely personable individual with a fierce passion for tourism, an easy-going nature and effervescent friendly smile. His work in the tourism community was truly unparalleled.”
“For three decades Oscar would stop by SCORE registration at least once at each race to check in on the SCORE staff, encourage us and constantly inquire of us if we needed anything at all and then check back with us latter to see if we needed anything else. He was a class act in every way and always a genuinely nice person.” SCORE OFF-ROADSMAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS
The SCORE Off-Roadsman awards were determined by online vote of SCORE members as well as the general public. Among the other honorees were the class point champions and top class point leaders from the pandemic-challenge four-race 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship, the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Series. BFGOODRICH TIRES ROLLS
BFGoodrich Tires, the official tire of SCORE for 46 years, received two awards. BFGoodrich Tires was honored as the SCORE Contingency Company of the year for the 31st time as well as being voted the SCORE Pit Support Team of the Year for the 33rd time.
BFGoodrich Tires has been the choice of 33 of the 53 overall winners of the popular SCORE Baja 500 and 32 of the 54 overall winners of the iconic SCORE Baja 1000. BFGoodrich Tires also was the title sponsor of both of the iconic races again in 2021. And will be again in 2022.
BFGoodrich Tires also has been the choice of 29 of the 34 overall winners of the SCORE San Felipe 250, all three SCORE Desert Challenge races, the one SCORE Challenge of Champions race, the one SCORE Baja Sur 500 and the inaugural SCORE Baja 400. BLURTON OVERALL
Climbing the ladder race-by-race, noted Northern California racer Phil Blurton enjoyed his first season competing full-time in SCORE by winning the SCORE Overall, SCORE UTV overall and Pro UTV FI class point championships in the 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship.
Starting cautiously with a fourth place in class in the season opener, Burton, 35, of Auburn, Calif. and his driving teammate Beau Judge, 44, of Rockland, Calif., finished in second place in each of the next two races and culminated their championship campaign by winning their class in the season-ending legendary SCORE Baja 1000 to earn their season crowns.
They shared the driving in their spectacular championship season in their No Limit RD No. 2944 Can-Am X3 UTV. SCORE ROOKIE
Third generation SCORE desert racer Cayden MacCachren, 19, of Las Vegas, was voted the 2021 SCORE Rookie of the Year over a class of budding superstars in desert racing.

Together they finished the season on the podium, third in the final Pro UTV FI (Forced Induction) class point standings, just three points out of second place.
Splitting the driving all season, the talented tandem won the season-opening SCORE San Felipe 250, finished third in class in the SCORE Baja 500, sixth in the SCORE Baja 400 and ninth in the SCORE Baja 1000.

And MacCachren Motorsports’ Andres ‘Lechero’ Rodriguez was voted the 2021 SCORE Mechanic of the Year for the second time as he also won the same award in 2018. HAGLE BROS
With help from his co-driving older brother Ben, 32, Ethan Hagle, 29, Somis, Calif., earned his first career Class 10 season point championship and his first SCORE Overall Open Wheel point title in the 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship.

With back-to-back class wins sandwiched between a sixth place to start the season and another sixth place to cap the season, SoCal’s veteran Jason McNeil won not only his Trophy Truck Spec class, but also captured the SCORE Overall Truck point title of the four-race 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship.
McNeil, 43, of El Cajon, Calif., is a veteran SCORE racer, and his FiberwerX team saw McNeil drive his No. 234 Geiser-Chevy solo to victory in both the SCORE Baja 500 and the SCORE Baja 400 in 2021. SCORE MANUFACTURER POINTS
Manufacturer point titles won were led by Mason Motorsports of Lake Elsinore, who have slowly burst onto the scene building all-wheel drive SCORE Trophy Trucks among many other classes of vehicles.
It was their first SCORE Original Truck Chassis Manufacturer of the Year point title.
