TIJUANA, Baja California, Mexico—Entering late on-site registration Thursday and Friday, 152 total vehicles have been processed as official entries so far for this weekend’s special-format, internationally televised Lucerna Hotels and Resorts Tijuana 22nd SCORE Desert Challenge, Round 3 of the four-race 2018 SCORE World Desert Championship. The race will be run as four laps over two days, held over a short, but rugged race course of 33.7 miles.
The race and all festivities surrounding it are being held in Tijuana, Mexico. Pre-race festivities will be held on Thursday and Friday in the Rio Zona area of Tijuana with racing on Saturday and Sunday starting and finishing at Rancho Casian on the Southeast outskirts of Tijuana.
With classes for Pro and Sportsman cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads from 22 U.S. States and eight countries entered to date, the elapsed-time race will have vehicles running in three separate groups staring at 6:30 a.m. each day with the final group that includes the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck division starting at 3:30 p.m.
The unique-format race will be held in an area with a spectator-friendly start/finish line area located at the popular Rancho Casian just off of Boulevard 2000 (Highway No. 201) at Km 22.
The race includes 14 entries in the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck division which is in its 25th season as the premier racing division in the sport. Included are top SCORE desert racers Rob MacCachren, Carlos ‘Apdaly’ Lopez, Luke McMillin, Bryce Menzies, brothers Tim Herbst and Ed Herbst along with Cameron Steele.
On-site racer registration, including late entries, will be held at the Hotel Lucerna in the Zona Rio area of Tijuana. It will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. PT on Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT on Friday.
