ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico – Continuing to be recognized as one of the world’s premier motorsports events, the legendary SCORE Baja 1000 has been voted by the readers of USA Today national newspaper as the No. 3 motorsports event in North America.
The SCORE Baja 1000 is also the No. 1 desert race in North America according to the reader’s choice voting that took place over a month and ended on July 5.
Finishing first overall in the 2020 USA Today 10Best readers’ choice awards was the Indianapolis 500 Indy Car race followed by the twelve Hours of Sebring sports car race. After the SCORE Baja 1000, fourth in overall votes was the Petit Le Mans and fifth was the King of the Hammers.
Voting was held from a list of 20 finalists put together by key U.S. sports ournalists.

In both 2016 and 2017, readers of the USA Today national publication voted the SCORE Baja 1000 as the No. 1 motorsports event in the entire world.
While the SCORE Baja 1000 was No. 2 overall in 2020, it was also first among the three desert races that made the top 20 list that was voted upon by the fans.
In 2021, The King of the Hammers finished fifth overall, the Vegas to Reno race placed seventh overall and the Minto 400 finished in the 10th position. A clear demonstration of the overall fan popularity of desert racing, this is the first time in the history of this award the four events among the top 20 finalists all finished in the top 10.
