Round 1 of the four-race 2022 SCORE World Championship will be held on March 30 to April 3.
Chenowth’s open-wheel creations were a driving force behind some of the sport’s biggest victories and greatest drivers.
In the 1970s, it was Chenowth who helped usher in the development of true tube frame off-road vehicles. The sport was quickly growing and evolving, and Chenowth Racing Products used a mass production approach to building affordable chassis and products, Chenowth helped bring the sport of recreational off-roading to the masses.
Chenowth was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2019.
His Chenowth Racing Products company was selected as the SCORE Original Chassis Builder of the Year a total of nine time across three decades. His first SCORE Off-Roadsman Award was in 1976 and in his last in 1994. Overall Chenowth won the award three times in the 1970s (1976, 1977, 1978), three times in the 1980s (1983, 1988, 1989) and three times in the 1990s (1990, 1991, 1994).
Lynn Chenowth sold his company in 1980 to Mike Thomas but remained as an active development consultant to the company into the 2000s including building Chenowth Fast Attack vehicles used in the Kuwait war.
Among the numerous SCORE champion racers that drove Chenowth open-wheel race cars in stadium, short-course and/or open desert racing were ORMHOF Inductees Drino Miller, Mark Stahl, Johnny Johnson, Ivan Stewart, Corky McMillin, Mark McMillin, Bob Gordon, Robby Gordon, Frank ‘Butch’ Arciero Jr, Rob MacCachren and Roger Mears.
Fully ‘retired’ in 2017, Lynn Chenowth now oversees the operation of his Chenowth Legacy Lodge and Museum in Rancho Percebu located 30 miles south of San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.
“This is great news that Lynn Chenowth has accepted our invitation to be the Grand Marshal for this year’s 35th SCORE San Felipe 250,” commented Jim Ryan, SCORE Director of Marketing and Sales. “His impact on off-road racing in whatever form, short-course, stadium or desert, is immeasurable and to spend a very special few days with this iconic pioneer in our sport while honoring him in San Felipe will be a wonderful privilege.”
