Full 4-race season in Baja
Alumi Craft, Dougans, Polaris, Honda, Mason win Manufacturer
Point crowns in 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship
ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—Battling through another tough year in the history of desert racing and on a larger scale the world, five prominent companies produced enough capable products to have earned SCORE Manufacturer season point titles for the pandemic-challenged four-race 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship.
SCORE was able to successfully produce all four of its regular races, all in Baja California, Mexico.
Emerging from the challenges of 2021, earning 2021 SCORE Manufacturer point championships were Alumi Craft, Dougans Racing Engines, Polaris Off-Road, American Honda motorcycles and Mason Motorsports, names all very prominent in the international world of desert racing.
SCORE ORIGINAL TRUCK CHASSIS MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
Manufacturer point titles won this year were led Mason Motorsports of Lake Elsinore, who have slowly burst onto the scene building all-wheel drive SCORE Trophy Trucks among many other classes of vehicles.
It was their first SCORE Original Truck Chassis Manufacturer of the Year award after a six-year run by Geiser Brothers since voting started in this category in 2015.
Founded in 2004 by brothers Neal and Robert Mason, Mason Motorsports is producing some amazing AWD trucks. Las Vegas’ Bryce Menzies won two individual races this year and Las Vegas’ Rob MacCachren drove with Luke McMillin to win the season-ending SCORE Baja 1000 peninsula run from Ensenada to La Paz in McMillin’s AWD Chevy Silverado all built by Mason Motorsports.
SCORE ENGINE BUILDER OF THE YEAR
Earning their fifth SCORE Engine Builder of the Year point championship in 2021, Dougans Racing Engines won the points in this award in this category for the fifth time in the last seven years.
Based in Riverside, Calif., Ray Field’s Dougans Racing Engines had their finest SCORE season ever, earning 399 total points to earn the 2021 Award. Field, who has been a part of Dougans since 1980, saw his racers finish on the podium in several races led by Bryce Menzies who won two races in SCORE Trophy Truck and Rolf Helland who won all four races in SCORE TT Legend to win the season point championship in his class.
SCORE UTV MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
In the seventh year decided by points, Polaris RZR Industries (Off-Road) won the 2021 SCORE UTV Manufacturer of the Year points for the seventh straight year.
Helping Polaris secure its 2021 Manufacturer point title was a pair of individual season class point champions in Kaden Wells (Pro UTV NA) and Mike Cafro (Pro UTV Stock). Kristen Matlock and Joe Bolton helped Polaris sweep the podium in the Pro UTV NA class to help Polaris secure its seventh consecutive manufacturer season point championship. Brandon Schueler/Cayden MacCachren were second in season points in Pro UTV FI and Josh Herzing and Wayne Matlock were second and third in the final Pro UTV Open class points.
SCORE MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
American Honda won the SCORE Motorcyle Manufacturer of the Year point title for an unprecedented 28th time and first since 2017. Helping Honda win their latest point championship were individual class point champions Derek Ausserbauer (Pro Moto Unlimited), Christopher Gil (Pro Moto Limited) and Scott McIntosh (Pro Moto 60).
Honda swept the podium in Pro Moto Unlimited in the 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship with Shane Redline and Ana Rivas finishing second and third behind Ausserbauer.
SCORE ORIGINAL OPEN-WHEEL CHASSIS MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
Based in Santee, Calif., John Cooley’s Alumi Craft won the Open Wheel Chassis Manufacturer point championship for the third time, all in the last six years. Founded in 2004, more and more Alumi Craft vehicles are appearing on the SCORE race entry lists.
In 2021, helping lead Alumi Craft to the season point crown were Ethan Hagle and Freddie Willert who finished first and second in Class 10 and Shelby Reid who finished second in points in the unlimited Class 1.
HOW THE POINTS WERE DETERMINED
SCORE calculates Manufacturer points on a modified version of the formula used for individual racers. For manufacturer points, podium finishers receive manufacturer points based on the number of starters within each class in the specific category.
