     The SCORE family is saddened to hear the news of the passing of Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee and legendary SCORE champion racer David Ashley. He was a wonderful friend of the sport and multi-time champion in several disciplines.

     Dave was a key member of the iconic Ford BFGoodrich Tires Rough Rider group of seven teams that roamed the deserts of Baja, California and Nevada from 1991 through 1995.

     Among his many racing accolades with Dick Landfield’s Enduro Racing, Ashley won 158 desert, stadium, and short course races here earned many awards.

     He earned three prestigious SCORE Milestone Awards (1997, 1998 and 2001). He also one of just nine racers to earn a SCORE Baja Triple Crown Award for winning the overall victories in the three traditional Baja races—the SCORE San Felipe 250, the SCORE Baja 500 and the SCORE Baja 1000.

     His SCORE racing career included 10 SCORE season class point championships from 1989 through 2008. He had nine class wins in the SCORE Baja 1000, four in the SCORE Baja 400 and five in the SCORE San Felipe 250.

    One of his greatest SCORE race victories was the once-in-lifetime SCORE Baja 2000 that ran from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas to celebrate the start of the new millennium.

    Ashley, like many SCORE racers began their off-road racing careers on motorcycles. In 1975 won the ISDE Enduro championship in Austria on a Yamaha.

     In 1994, Dave conceptualized and helped build the first NASCAR Supertruck, one of today’s most popular types of race vehicles.

     In 2013, he helped build the Ford Raptor race-truck for the Dakar Race in South America.

     In 2014 Dave was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame. He was featured in USA Today, Speed Week, LA Times, Newsweek, US News and Sports Illustrated articles.

     In addition, Ford produced a personal feature of him in a commercial during the Super Bowl.

     Ashley was also asked as a driver, to work with Ford design engineers to test and assess critical auto issues, and identify technical solutions.

     In this role, he has become adept at working with engineers and executives in the United States, China, Europe, South America and Mexico, earning him a Ford Outstanding Engineer Achievement Award.

     SCORE sends its deepest condolences to his family and friends with prayers of remembrance.

     David Ashley’s legacy will live on in the annals of off-road racing.
