ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—Desert racing machines from today and yesterday are all part of the massive SCORE Baja 1000 Experience exhibit at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show this week at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Among the featured vehicles this year are the ‘Big Oly’ Bronco driven by Parnelli Jones, the vintage Meyers Manx called ‘Old Red’ and Ivan Stewart’s championship Toyota desert truck.
The Experience is a fitting prelude to November’s Granddaddy of All Desert Races, the BFGoodrich Tires 54th SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts.
The SCORE Baja 1000 is at the pinnacle of motorsports as the most iconic, oldest, prestigious, toughest and longest continuously held desert race in the world.
Different from the first five years (2014-2018) that it was part of the massive automotive industry trade show, this year’s SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience is indoors in a 50,000-square foot area of the North Hall N4 Pavilion and the displays will feature much wider variety and vintage of vehicles from several classes of trucks, motorcycles, UTVs, Baja Bugs, open wheelers, pre-runners and chase trucks that compete in the world-renown SCORE World Desert Championship.
Also a part of this year’s colorful Experience will be classic race vehicles and SCORE lifestyle exhibits that will include Overlanding, Chase and state-of-the-art desert racing pre-runners.
Another of the elements in the dynamic Experience will be the official SCORE Transporter, a stage, racer interviews, and two SCOREvision double-sided LED screens showing highlights of SCORE races, interviews and up close and personal looks of the nearly 60 vehicles that are part of this special area of the SEMA Show.
Viewed through the SCORE website (, SCORE Live will be streaming from the Experience all day on Thursday with Rat Sult, the voice of SCORE as emcee and assistance from veteran motorsports announcer Dave Arnold.
For those entries in November’s BFGoodrich Tires 54th SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts, that were not finishers or didn’t race in the September’s SCORE Baja 400 a live drawing for the remaining starting positions will be held in the SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience starting at noon on Thursday, Nov. 4.
While nearly 60 vehicles will be on display in the SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience, three featured vehicles will be displayed on their own special stages. The three spotlighted vehicles will be the legendary ‘Big Oly’ Bronco, Meyers Manx ‘Old Red’, and Ivan ‘Ironman’ Stewart’s legendary Toyota truck.
Among the several current racing motorcycles that will be part of The Experience are the Pro Moto Unlimited motorcyles 1x Honda CRF450X (Mark Samuels/Justin Morgan), and the Pro Moto 60 bike 628x Honda CRF450X (Scott McIntosh/Don Whittington).
Among the other current vehicles that will be on display are the SCORE Trophy Trucks of Jax Redline, Chris Miller, Geiser brothers and Brenthel Industries.
Part of the Trophy Truck Spec vehicles will be from Jonathan Brenthel, Brad Lovell, Terrible Herbst Motorsports, and Valerie Clark.
Pre-runners on display will include vehicles from B.J. Baldwin, Bryce Menzies, Luke McMillin and Steve Olliges.
Included among the UTVs will be vehicles from Robby Gordon, Wayne Matlock, Wes Miller and Katie Vernola.
Also on display will be Douglas Satterfield’s SCORE Lite open-wheeler and Jeff Hardy’s Class 5 unlimited VW Baja Bug.
Several Class 11 stock VW sedans will be part of the Experience along with Jeff Proctor’s Class 7 Honda Ridgeline and a Wide Open Baja Challenge vehicle.
Among the vintage vehicles at the Experience will be Steve Sourapas’ SCORE Trophy Truck, Michael Gaughan’s Walker Evans Dodge Ramcharger and the Class 8 truck of Greg Foutz.
There is no other trade show in the world where the SEMA attendees can see thousands of product innovations from 1,300 new and iconic exhibitors, experience the latest product and custom vehicle trends, get access to 70+ free professional skill-enhancing education sessions and make career-changing connections with peers, leaders, and celebrities at the industry’s most anticipated in-person networking event.
While every year for the Granddaddy of All Desert Races is mesmerizing, a peninsula run down Mexico’s magnificent Baja California peninsula is, for lack of a better term, hypnotizing. This year’s race course promises to easily live up to the lasting legacy of races past as SCORE has announced the official map for the gargantuan 1,226.35-mile race course for this renewal of a pilgrimage for the ages.
Starting and finishing under Mexico’s strict BioSecurity health and safety protocols, race-week festivities and the race itself will be held Nov. 15-20.
This year’s race will be a peninsula run of 1,226.35 miles down majestic Baja California, starting in Ensenada, Baja California and finishing in La Paz, Baja California Sur.
The event is a peninsula race down Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula from Ensenada, Baja California to La Paz, Baja California Sur.
Starting and finishing under strict BioSecurity health and safety protocols in Baja California, Mexico, the final round of the four-race 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship race-week festivities and the Granddaddy of All Desert Races itself will be held Nov. 15-20.
