2019 SCORE Awards Night Saturday, Jan. 11 in San Diego Air & Space Museum at Balboa Park

ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—After building up a huge lead following his tenacious victories in the 33rd SCORE San Felipe 250 and the 51st SCORE Baja 500 along with his second place finish in a brand new race truck at the Inaugural Lucerna SCORE Baja 400, San Diego’s ‘youthful’ veteran third-generation desert racer Andy McMillin held on in the season-finale to earn the SCORE Overall and the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck season point championship in the four-race 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship.
Splitting the driving with Las Vegas’ champion desert racer Bryce Menzies in the season-finale, Andy McMillin overcame a rollover and other mechanical issues to finish 13th in the weather-delayed BFGoodrich Tires 52nd SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts, to clinch his first season point championship.
Andy McMillin finished second behind Ryan Arciero in the SCORE Baja 400 in a field of 189 starters for the first-time race including 36 in the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division for high-tech, 950-horsepower unlimited custom trucks. McMillin, 32, who has 11 career SCORE Trophy Truck race wins, drove the No. 31 McMillin Motorsports Mason-built all-wheel drive Chevy Silverado and finished with a  strong 455 season points after his twin wins, one second place and one 13th place to earn the championship by a comfortable margin of 22 points.

TIGHTEST POINT RACES EVER
Finishing its 46th year as the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization, the 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship saw the closest point races in the long and storied history of SCORE. Seven class championships were decided by four points or less, including three by two points and two by one point each. Those seven classes with the tightest battles to the end were SCORE TT Legend, the unlimited Class 1, Trophy Truck Spec, Class 10, Pro UTV FI (Forced Induction), Pro Moto 30 and Pro Quad.
MATLOCK WINS OVERALL UTV
The 2019 overall Pro UTV point champion and winner of his Pro UTV FI (Forced Induction) class for the second consecutive years is veteran SCORE desert racer Wayne Matlock.
Matlock, 41, Alpine, Calif. had finishes of first, fourth, fifth and second in his No. 2971 Monster Energy Polaris RZR XP4 Turbo to earn his seven career SCORE season class point crown. Matlock also finished eighth in SCORE Overall Points with 418 total season points.
TOP FIVE IN OVERALL POINTS
Second in SCORE overall points and champion of the Trophy Truck Spec class was Sara Price, 27 of Canyon Lake, Calif., with 441 points in her No. 204 RPM Racing Geiser-Chevy truck.
Price had four consecutive solid second place finishes in her class in 2019 driving solo in each race which has given her the season point title in her class. Price becomes one of just a handful of female racers to capture a SCORE season class point championship in the 46-year history of the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization.
SCORE Trophy Truck and the Trophy Truck Spec class each had eight racers in the top 25 in 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship overall points.
Finishing second in the Trophy Truck Spec class and third in SCORE Overall points was SCORE rookie and second-generation desert racer Austin ‘A.J.’ Jones, 23, of Litchfield Park, Ariz.
With first SCORE class win ever in San Felipe, followed by two fourth-place finishes in class and capping the year by winning his class at the SCORE Baja 1000, A.J. Jones was third in the 2019 SCORE Overall point standings and second in Trophy Truck Spec with 439 season points is his No. 279 TSCO-Chevy truck. Jones is son of 2010 SCORE Trophy Truck season point champion Jesse Jones.
Highlighted by becoming just the third Mexican national team to ever win the iconic SCORE Baja 1000, finishinh fourth in SCORE Overall points and second in SCORE Trophy Truck were Ensenada brothers Alan Ampudia, 28 and Aaron Ampudia, 26, in their No. 10 Papas & Beer Ford Raptor (ID). They edged fourth place by just one point with 432 season points.
Fifth in overall points and third in SCORE Trophy Truck was third-generation SCORE desert racer Luke McMIllin, 26 of San Diego, who finished the year with 431 points in his No. 83 Mark Racing Ford F-150 (Racer). Andy McMillin’s cousin, Luke McMillin had SCORE finishes this year in SCORE Trophy Truck of fifth, second, 12th and third.
POINT REGS
SCORE point regulations for 2019 had all four-races counting for final points.
SCORE points are calculated on a set amount of start points and finish points for each race along with a variable amount for placement points for finishers based on the number of starters within each class.
MORGAN TOPS M/Cs AGAIN!
Repeating their 2018 SCORE Overall Motorcycle and Pro Moto Unlimited class point championship by amazingly winning his class and the overall titles in all four races last year as a new team and again this year giving him 11 straight SCORE Baja race wins, Justin Morgan, 29, El Cajon, Calif. won the SCORE Overall Motorcycle point championship and the Pro Moto Unlimited class with 388 points on his No. 1x SLR Honda CRF450X.
With his regular teammates Mark Samuels, 29, Yucca Valley, Calif. and Justin Jones, 27, Murrieta, Calif., Morgan topped his third straight championship season by enlisting three different co-riders to win the SCORE Baja 1000. Splitting the riding with Morgan in that race were David Kamo, Caldwell, Idaho, Max Eddy Jr, Barstow, Calif. and Shane Esposito, Temecula, Calif.
