Prominent industry professional Jim Ryan named SCORE Marketing & Sales Director

    RENO, Nev.—Jim Ryan, the accomplished, award-winning media executive who has held key management positions with five of the world’s most influential and powerful media communications groups, has been named the SCORE Marketing and Sales Director it was announced today by SCORE officials. SCORE International, based in Reno, Nev., is the producer and sanctioning body of the SCORE World Desert Championship with races both in Baja California, Mexico and Southern California.
Ryan, of Long Beach, Calif., has assumed his new position effective immediately, working directly with SCORE CEO/President Roger Norman. Ryan, most recently the Off-Road Group Publisher for Los Angeles’ Source Interlink Media, joins the team of SCORE which is celebrating its 41st season as the world’s foremost desert racing organization.
“This is a truly remarkable opportunity for SCORE to have an individual with the impeccable reputation and remarkable resume of Jim Ryan be available at the same time as we confirmed our need for this key management position in the development of the new generation of SCORE International,” commented SCORE’s Norman.

A Journalism graduate of the University of Ohio, Ryan spent the last two years with Source Interlink Media, the company that acquired his Dirt Sports and Off-Road Industry magazines in October of 2012.
Commenting on his new position, Ryan said, “I have been aware of and worked with and around SCORE for nearly three decades through my positions in the publishing world and I thoroughly welcome this opportunity and challenge to help grow the new SCORE in the direction that Roger Norman has it headed. Among the many honors Ryan has received over the years, two of his most coveted are the 2012 SEMA Motorsports Council’s Robert E. Petersen Media Person of the Year award and the 2012 SCORE Journalist of the Year award.
Ryan spent his lengthy career in various sales and publishing positions with Petersen Publishing in Los Angeles (1980-2001) before a two-year tenure with Primedia and five years with Advanstar Communications (2003-2008) in Irvine, Calif. prior to going solo with his Ryan Communications Group to produce the highly-regarded Dirt Sports and Off-Road Industry magazines (2008-2012).

Round 4 of the five-race 2014 SCORE World Desert Championship will be the 19th Rigid Industries SCORE Desert Challenge to be held Sept. 25-28 at the Coyne Powersports Motorplex in Imperial Valley, Calif.
Every race in the 2014 SCORE World Desert Championship and the special SEMA Show exhibition (SCORE Baja 1000 Experience) and qualifying for the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 (from Las Vegas Motor Speedway) are televised on a delayed basis in the USA and Canada as a one-hour special on the CBS Sports Network. The shows, produced by SoCal’s acclaimed BCII TV, air a minimum of twice on the CBS Sports Spectacular show.
The initial airing of the upcoming Rigid Industries SCORE Desert Challenge will be at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014. Following the CBS Sports Network telecasts, the Rigid Industries SCORE Desert Challenge show will air worldwide in over 100 countries through international distribution.
With viewers in over 100 countries, SCORE Dirt LiveHD presents live internet streaming from the event from pre-green to post-checker. Coverage includes live start and finish line interviews as well as live coverage from the many ancillary events tied to each race.  On race day, live satellite tracking of all vehicles in the race is broadcast through the SCORE International website.
In its 41st year as the world’s foremost desert racing organization in 2014, the five-race 2014 SCORE World Desert Championship, with three special events held in Baja California, Mexico, and two in the United States, started with the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 on March 1. Starting and finishing in Ensenada, the 46th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 was held June 5-8 and the third SCORE Baja race, starting in Ensenada and finishing in La Paz, the 47th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, a peninsula run, will be held Nov. 12-16.
The two U.S. races on 2014 SCORE World Desert Championship calendar started with the inaugural SCORE Imperial Valley 250 in Plaster City, Calif. (April 25-27) and concludes with the two-day, single-race 19th annual Rigid Industries SCORE Desert Challenge, Imperial Valley, Calif. (Sept. 25-28).

SCORE Dirt LiveHD, SCORE’s weekly Tuesday night internet studio show from El Cajon, Calif., also goes on-site live with expanded event coverage during SCORE events. Live event coverage in 2014 will include week-long live coverage of the entire five-race 2014 SCORE World Desert Championship which includes two races in the United States and three in Baja California, Mexico.  The final USA event of the inaugural SCORE World Desert Championship will be the upcoming 19th annual Rigid Industries SCORE Desert Challenge in Imperial Valley, Calif.
This year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 500 was identified as a qualifying race for special entry packages into the 2015 Dakar Rally in South America. Winners in car and truck classes would come from SCORE Trophy Truck, Class 1 and Class 10 along with another winning entry from Pro motorcycles (all with time adjustments). Mike Johnson, Santa Monica, Calif. (Class 10) and Tony Gera, Santa Cruz, Calif. (SCORE Ironman) were the two winners this year.
Desert racing public address announcer and former racer George Antill is the executive producer and host of the popular show.  A guest host on some weeks is Dianna Dahlgren, Miss Monster Energy Supercross. A special segment most weeks is SCORE Tech Tips with SCORE Tech co-directors Jake Velasco or Art Savedra or SCORE Trophy Truck racer and prep-shop owner T.J. Flores.
