ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico – While the world continues to maintain some form of normalcy as it ferociously fights a vicious virus, SCORE International continues to move forward with its plans for the four-race 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship in Baja California, Mexico. SCORE is beginning its 47th year as the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization.
NEWS TOPPERS
At the top of the SCORE News channel at this time are three major announcements: the launch of the digital SCORE Baja 1000 Big Air Game, the start of a massive SCORE membership Baja Discount Program in Baja California, and in memory of SCORE champion racer Pete Sohren the posting of a special $2,222.22 winner’s bonus for Class 5 at the season-opening 34th annual SCORE San Felipe 250.
SEASON OPENER
The season-opening event of the four-race internationally-televised 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship has been rescheduled for May 5-10 in San Felipe, the picturesque, peaceful fishing village on the Sea of Cortez, 125 miles south of the U.S. Border at Calexico, Calif. All four 2020 SCORE races will be held on Mexico’s magnificent Baja California peninsula for the fifth consecutive year.
Domestically, the race will be televised on a delayed basis on the World of X Games show on the ABC Television Network as co-produced by SCORE International and award-winning BCII TV of Los Angeles.
SCORE has developed a near race-record long 326.7-mile race course. Prior to re-opening onine racer registration in a few weeks, there are 192 total official entries to date who have come from 21 U.S. States along with 10 total countries to compete in Pro and Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, utvs, motorcycles and quads.
DOUBLE DIGITS
The race includes 31 entries so far in the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck division, the premier racing division created by SCORE in 1994. The current total includes eight in SCORE TT Legend for drivers over 50 years old.
Besides SCORE Trophy Truck, the other classes with double figure entries to date and their totals are Pro UTV FI-Forced Induction (21), Trophy Truck Spec (21), Class 10 (19) and the unlimited Class 1 (12).
Among Sportsman classes, SPT Quad has 12 entries.
SCORE BIG AIR GAME
F84 Games in partnership with SCORE International and SCORE electronic-media partner BCII have announced the launch of the Baja Big Air Game as the Official Game of SCORE International for the emerging mobile game market.
The interactive new game allows players to pick and customize their own SCORE Trophy Truck with more than 1000 combinations of paint jobs, body styles, decals and tires.
For the first release, players get behind the wheel at take on the SCORE Baja 1000, earning points for winning short sections and performing ‘big air’ flips. In development are game courses representing the SCORE San Felipe 250 and the SCORE Baja 500.
Players can also challenge 10 legendary SCORE Baja racers and teams including Gustavo ‘Tavo’ Vildosola, Shelby Reid, Casey Currie and Alan Ampudia.
F84 Games is a well-established and independent game developer who has worked with Disney, Warner Brothers, Mattel and others to create games as a media platform. Since the company’s inception in 2000, it has developed more than 400 games across several platforms for its clients and partners.
Baja Big Air was designed to capture what’s cool about SCORE Baja racing, but in an action-packed and fun way that both hardcore gamers and off-road enthusiasts would enjoy.

2020 SCORE BAJA DISCOUNT PROGRAM
For 47 years, SCORE International has been the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization with nearly 175 races on Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula.
With all four races in the SCORE World Desert Championship held exclusively in Baja California since 2016, SCORE has worked with the business community up and down the peninsula to develop the SCORE Baja Discount Program for all current official SCORE members.
This special program has been initiated for 2020 and hopefully for years to come. Participating are numerous hotels, restaurants, bars and shops in Baja California and Baja California Sur. With nearly 50 businesses already committed to the project and more being added daily, discounts of at least 10 percent and upwards of 20 percent are being offered to the entire active SCORE membership.
Participating businesses will all display a SCORE Baja Discount Program decal and the updated list of businesses will be found on the SCORE website. The current list with expanded information on each appears in the March issue of the SCORE Journal which is also located on the SCORE website.
$2,222.22 WINNER BONUS FOR CLASS 5
Late SCORE champion racer Pete Sohren is being posthumously recognized as the honorary Grand Marshal of this year’s SCORE San Felipe 250, the race he loved the most.
In conjunction with this honor, a special $2,222.22 bonus purse has been offered by Pistol Pete’s family and his Forever Pit Crew for the winner of Class 5 at the SCORE San Felipe 250.
The March issue of the SCORE Journal has a life feature on the popular desert-racing personality, written by noted sports journalist Stuart Bourdon. The issue is accessed through the SCORE website.
BFGOODRICH TIRES UNMATCHED

For the 34th annual SCORE San Felipe 250, the contingency bonus is US$10,000. BFGoodrich Tires is entering its 44th year as the Official Tire of SCORE and in 2020 the company will also be the title sponsor of both the 52nd SCORE Baja 500 and the 53rd SCORE Baja 1000.
