All of these news items plus a major preview of the upcoming SCORE Baja 400, presented by VP Racing Fuels, will all be highlighted in next week’s August issue of the digital SCORE Journal magazine. WHEN The youngest race in the long and storied nearly 50-year history of the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization will be held Sept. 13-18 in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. ONLINE RACER REGISTRATION Online registration, by class, for Pro and Sportsman cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads, is ongoing through the SCORE website. Information on all SCORE races can be found on the home page under the Race Info tab. Online racer registration will close at 5 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Aug. 31. In person registration will be held in the SCORE Ensenada office until 5 p.m. PDT on Thursday, Sept. 8. For more info, visit https://score-international.com/raceinfo/2022-baja-400-sept-13-18-2022/ PRE-RUNNING Official practice, or pre-running, on the official 393.82-mile race course for this year’s 3rd SCORE Baja 400, presented by VP Racing Fuels, will open at 8 a.m. PDT on Saturday, Sept. 3. Pre-running will start at race mile 33.14. The first 33.14 miles, which will be used in both directions during the race, will be available for pre-running only on Thursday (Sept. 15) and Friday (Sept. 16) and only in the outbound direction. QUALIFYING Qualifying for starting positions within their respective classes will be held on Wednesday (Sept. 14), starting at 8 a.m. PDT. Classes that will be qualifying for the 3rd SCORE Baja 400 are SCORE Trophy Truck, SCORE TT Legend, the unlimited Class 1 and the Trophy Truck Spec class. SCORE NEWS… …OFF-ROAD EXPO SCORE International’s SCORE World Desert Championship is returning for the first time since 2019 to have a significant presence at the upcoming 22nd Off-Road Expo at the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif. To be held Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2, the extensive and colorful SCORE Baja 1000 exhibit area will be located for the first time in Building 7 and will once again offer desert-racing fans the opportunity to interact with many of the top desert racing teams in the world while viewing the most radical motorsports vehicles ever developed. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 1) and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 2). Over 250 entries, from 30 U.S. States and 15 countries are expected to compete in this year’s 55th annual SCORE Baja 1000. The world’s most iconic, oldest, prestigious, toughest and longest continuously held desert race, this year’s SCORE Baja 1000 will start and finish in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. Dates for the race and race week festivities will be Nov. 14 through Nov. 20. The race is annually the finale of the four-race SCORE World Desert Championship, which is being held exclusively for the past seven years in Baja California. COURSE UNVEILING AT OFF-ROAD EXPO At a 3 p.m. PT media conference on Saturday, Oct. 1, SCORE will unveil the official course map for the 2022 SCORE Baja 1000, the 55th edition of the iconic Granddaddy of All Desert Races. More information on the 2022 Off-Road Expo is available at https://www.offroadexpo.com/ …SCORE MILESTONE AWARDS SCORE International has announced that prominent Toyota of Escondido (Calif.) is now the presenting sponsor of the prestigious Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards, presented by Toyota of Escondido. Midway through the four-race 2022 SCORE World Desert Championship, 110 of the toughest racers in the world remain in the hunt to earn 2022 Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards, presented by Toyota of Escondido. The first two races were the SCORE San Felipe 250 in April and the SCORE Baja 500 in June. SCORE is presenting these prestigious awards to the world’s toughest desert racers for the 37th consecutive year. The Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards, presented by Toyota of Escondido, will be given to the car, truck, UTV drivers and motorcycle, quad riders who finish every required mile as official finishers in the 2022 SCORE World Desert Championship. Racers have been required to cover 740.12 miles in two races so far this season. Toyota of Escondido was established in 1978 and is a family owned and operated business. It includes TE Motorsports. TE Motorsports provides automotive services, truck caps & covers, truck bed accesories, vehicle wraps, and premium race car builds of Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet & RAM vehicles for the San Diego area. Starting with family patriarch Gary Myers, it continues through his sons Steve, Dan and Andrew and now includes Steve’s daughters Britney and Tamara driving in SCORE Baja races. …LeDUC, GRAND MARSHAL Adding to the glamour of the 3rd SCORE Baja 400, presented by VP Racing Fuels, Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame Class of 2015 inductee Curt LeDuc, and SCORE champion truck racer has been named as the Grand Marshal for this year’s race. Passionate to a flair with racing champion sons Todd LeDuc and Kyle LeDuc, Curt LeDuc, 67, of Cherry Valley, Calif., has been a winner in desert racing, short course racing, the Dakar Rally, the Pike’s Peak Hill Climb and the elder LeDuc is like the energizer bunny…he’s still going, going and going. Building most of the vehicles he raced in, many would call LeDuc an engineer, but he prefers to be referenced as an ‘imagineer’ for his mechanical acumen. LeDuc has had a strong career in SCORE and has four career SCORE Trophy Truck race wins and he won the 1997 SCORE Trophy Truck season point championship driving a factory-sponsored Jeep Cherokee.
