Fabricio Fuentes made history for his country of Bolivia, by winning the 2023 SCORE World Desert Championship in the Pro Moto Ironman class. This was something previously achieved by his fellow countryman Juan Carlos “Chavo” Salvatierra.
Fuentes indicated that being crowned a champion of SCORE International brings him a lot of happiness and pride and is a sporting feat that he dedicates to South America, and especially Bolivia. “I carry my identity as the Chaqueno that I am. It was certainly not easy, but with effort, dedication, and perseverance, it was possible to achieve my dream goal,” said Fuentes.
Many people were vital in helping Fuentes reach the championship, but he said that God is the one to whom he is mainly grateful. He also thanked his family, his team, Villa Montes Racing, and GasGas of Bolivia, as Fuentes sported the brand’s colors during the race.
Of the four-race 2023 SCORE World Championship Season, Fuentes placed ninth, fourth, third, and fifth place in sequence throughout each race. The most complicated challenge, however, was the SCORE Baja 400, as he raced it without any mechanical assistance and with a very limited budget aboard his GasGas EC350F motorcycle.
Regarding his first title in the SCORE International Pro Moto Ironman class, Fuentes said that limitations are not obstacles when you have a strong mind to achieve your goals. “Fighting for this championship with the best teams and riders in the world is a great challenge for anyone, but I showed that you can make your dreams come true, thanks to the work done.”
About his roots in Bolivia, Fuentes said that he feels very motivated to represent his people and is grateful to God for giving him the strength and wisdom to complete every mile of his championship season. He hopes to be able to defend his crown in 2024, but that goal is still pending, as he is analyzing his budget to be able to return to the Mexican deserts and greet his friends from the Baja California peninsula once again.
