SCORE TROPHY TRUCK

TAVO VILDOSOLA, No. 21 (Vildosola qualified first) - - It was smooth. That was something that we were focused on this year. We knew we needed to qualify better. We ended 2024 with an eleventh and ninth place in qualifying and that does not put you in a position to win. Today we had smooth, clean run and it looks like we are number one. The course is tricky; I think that is the right word. It invites you to cut corners and cheat a little, but then it bites you when you are out of position for the next corner. We decided to clean that up and be smooth and rail around the course and I think it worked. Over the winter we worked on reliability and suspension and it is running amazingly. I am excited for Saturday.

 

LUKE MCMILLIN, No. 83 (McMillin qualified third) - - It was a good lap, clean. The truck was running really well, no mistakes, no issues. Just had to avoid the rocks a little bit. I just didn’t want to make a big mistake. I thing we are sitting P3, which is a great spot. Saturday is race day. It has been a great week pre-running. We are getting down to the final days. We are tired, but we have to push through and keep putting in the work.

 

JUSTIN LOFTON, No. 41 (Lofton qualified fifth) - - That could have been a lot better. I was a little sloppy on the start and got worked up, but it was a good lap. Truck handled good. Been working on our Fox shocks live-valve system, tuning it, and I think it is going to be really good in the desert. That is all that matters. I am really excited for the SCORE San Felipe 250.

 

ROBBY GORDON, No. 5 (Gordon qualified sixth) - - It was good. I guess we are eight seconds off and I’m going to say I gave up eight seconds not being brave enough in some of the corners. We had a little issue on the parade lap so I was more focused on the issue then paying attention to where we are at. Max (Gordon) did a great job in the passenger seat, telling me to go-go-go and I was like I don’t know if I can go. I got to learn to trust him because he is obviously going to go for the ride with me. It went good. I’ve only pre-run the first section. I wish we could have gotten down here a little earlier, that would have been good. If I could have driven the truck more than just the parade lap, that could have been the difference. We are happy we are this close, though. If you look at the trucks we did beat, there are some good Mason trucks that put a big effort into it and this is a show up and go deal. I want to thank Clyde Stacy and Justin and everybody at RPM all the guys at Geiser. Pretty cool.

 

ROB MACCACHREN, No. 11 (MacCachren qualified eighth) - - It went pretty good. We are back with Jimco and Fastball Racing. We got a little bit of testing in the off-season with Fox shocks and their new live-valve, and BFGoodrich tires. Things are coming along well. So we ran a pretty good, clean qualifying run. The ruts are getting deep so you really have to rail the corners good, so that is probably where we lacked a little here today. Everybody at Jimco working super hard on the truck. I want to thank Bobby Patton for another year here. We are super excited to be here. We want to win races, finish them, have clean runs. Been down here pre-running eight day. We are doing our homework.

 

 

SCORE TROPHY TRUCK LEGENDS

RICKY JOHNSON, No. 1L (DOR – Gustavo Vildosola, Sr., qualified first) - - It was a clean run. The track is very rutted, very deep. I felt our lap was clean. I missed a couple shifts, got stuck in third gear a couple times, but the set-up was great. I want to thank Gus and Fernanda and all of Vildosola Racing. I want to congratulate my teammate, Gustavo, I’m pretty sure he is on the pole. I’m not sure where we are standing but it was a clean run. I didn’t hit any big rocks and we are here in one piece. We have 250 miles of racing on Saturday. I’m going to start the race and Gus is going to bring it home.

 

RICK D. JOHNSON, No. 37L (DOR – Rolf Helland, qualified second) - - It went good, but the course is getting chewed up. It is hard to tell. It felt good. We are at a little disadvantage, we run a pump-gas motor. I think we will be in an OK spot. San Felipe is so rough, but the course is going to be fast. We are looking forward to Saturday.

 

LARRY ROESELER, No. 61L (DOR David Payne, qualified third) - - It was exciting, that’s for sure. These all-wheel-drive Mason trucks are amazing. I haven’t had a lot of time in it but it is absolutely amazing. I can’t thank those guys enough – David Payne, Murph. It is amazing how deep the ruts get and how amazing these trucks can smash through the rough stuff. It was exciting, it was fun. Of course, Saturday will be the big test. I am going to start and to the first 165 miles. There are a lot of new sections. Thank you SCORE for being creative and making some options. There are a lot of good washes. There is some new stuff and multiple choices, which make it fun.

 

 

SCORE TROPHY TRUCK 2WD

ADAM HOUSEHOLDER, No. 24T (Householder qualified second) - - This was a pretty wild course. I think we will be up front. We had a pretty good run. We are having a blast. We love San Felipe so much. It is rough and that is my style of driving. I want that two-wheel-drive win. The truck is awesome. A few weeks ago in the states we won and that was a big accomplishment. My goal now is a win in Mexico. We are trying hard. We have put time and effort into this. We are going to make it happen.

 

NIC WHETSTONE, No, 18T (Whetstone qualified third) - - Technical course. Unfortunately we spun around on one of the corners so that wasn’t great. We had a little hiccup there but the rest of it we were balls to the wall, trying to bring it home for the two-wheel-drive class. But it doesn’t mean everything. We got the race on Saturday, so we need to focus on that. We are going to go do some homework on that. I just flew in from Australia. I’m pumped to be here. I got a lot of work to do. It’s hard to know what is going on with the truck in this short burst but everything feels good. I can’t complain. We have done some pre-running and have more to do today.

 

CAMERON STEELE, No. 16T (Steele qualified fifth) - - Everything went pretty good until I made a mistake and went off the track. I lost where I was, which was weird being a motocross racer I thought I had it nailed down. For some reason my eyes went one way and I went into these two giant holes. But the Monster Energy No 16T was perfect. The qualifying track this year was more raceable. I think the two-wheel-drives will have fun. The all-wheel-drives will slaughter us just because of the traction, but you don’t win in qualifying, you win at the end of the race.

 

 

SCORE TROPHY TRUCK SPEC

JASON MCNEIL, No. 234 (McNeil qualified first) - - We had a great truck. We have this thing so dialed. We ran the course and it looks like we got the top spot. I’m really excited to get this show on the road. San Felipe really fits our driving style. Honestly I’m really excited to be back in the truck; I haven’t been in the truck in about eight months, since our last wreck. It’s time. It’s time to dust off the dust. This race isn’t your typical SCORE San Felipe 250. There are a lot of washes. I like the washes. There are a lot of rocks. We are ready for Saturday.

 

JUSTIN DAVIS, No. 285 (Davis qualified seventh) - - It went alright but qualifying is not the race. We will see where we end up. It will be a fun 250 miles. It was tight, a little bit technical, we were trying to get the right groove and missed a couple of things. For the race, we know the course real well and know our lines so we will be good racing.

 

THOR HERBST, No 200 (Herbst qualified thirteenth) - - It was not a great run for me but we gathered it together and hopefully came back with a smooth run. Hopefully we will get a decent start. It was a good course. For the race we will hopefully just keep it clean. In the SCORE Trophy Truck Spec class whoever keeps it the most clean, wins. That is the goal. I’m starting and doing the first half and my brother is driving the second half.

 

SANTIAGO CREEL, No. 260 (Creel qualified twenty-eighth) - - The course was really fast. There were tough parts with washes and sand. It was really slippery but not really dangerous, which is good, so it was really fast. We were hoping for a top ten or top fifteen.

SCORE TROPHY TRUCKS

TAVO VILDÓSOLA, No. 21 (Vildósola calificó primero)
Fue un manejo muy limpio. Eso era algo en lo que nos enfocamos este año. Sabíamos que necesitábamos calificar mejor. Terminamos el 2024 con un undécimo y noveno lugar en la calificación y eso no te pone en una posición para ganar. Hoy tuvimos una calificación fluida y limpia, y parece que somos el número uno. La ruta fue complicada; creo que esa es la palabra correcta. Te invita a recortar las esquinas y hacer trampa un poco, pero luego te castiga cuando estás fuera de posición para la siguiente curva. Decidimos limpiar eso y estar con un manejo fluido, y hacer la calificación con buena trayectoria, y creo que funcionó. Durante el invierno trabajamos en la fiabilidad y la suspensión, y está funcionando increíblemente bien. Estoy emocionado para el sábado.

 

LUKE MCMILLIN, No. 83 (McMillin calificó tercero)
Fue una buena vuelta, limpia. El truck estaba funcionando muy bien, sin errores, sin problemas. Solo tuvimos que evitar un poco las piedras. No quería cometer un gran error. Creo que estamos en la tercera posición, lo cual es un gran lugar. El sábado es el día de la carrera. Ha sido una gran semana de recorridos. Estamos llegando a los últimos días. Estamos cansados, pero tenemos que seguir adelante y seguir trabajando. 

 

JUSTIN LOFTON, No. 41 (Lofton calificó quinto)
Esto podría haber sido mucho mejor. Estuve un poco desordenado en el inicio y me alteré, pero fue una buena vuelta de calificación. El truck se comportó bien. Hemos estado trabajando en nuestro sistema de amortiguadores Fox con válvulas de control, afinándolos, y creo que van a funcionar muy bien en el desierto. Eso es lo que realmente importa. Estoy muy emocionado por esta SCORE San Felipe 250. 

 

ROBBY GORDON, No. 5 (Gordon calificó sexto)
Fue bueno. Supongo que estamos a ocho segundos de diferencia y voy a decir que esos ocho segundos los perdí por no ser lo suficientemente valiente en algunas de las curvas. Tuvimos un pequeño problema en la vuelta de práctica, así que estuve más concentrado en el problema, que en prestar atención a dónde estábamos. Max (Gordon) hizo un gran trabajo en el asiento de copiloto, diciéndome "¡vamos, vamos, vamos!" y yo pensaba, no sé si pueda ir más rápido. Tengo que aprender a confiar en él porque obviamente va a ir conmigo en la carrera. Todo salió bien. Solo recorrí la primera sección de la ruta. Ojalá hubiéramos podido llegar aquí un poco antes, eso hubiera sido bueno. Si hubiera podido conducir el truck más allá de solo la vuelta de práctica, eso podría haber marcado la diferencia. Sin embargo, estamos contentos de estar tan cerca. Si miras los trucks que sí vencimos, hay algunos buenos trucks Mason que hicieron un gran esfuerzo y esto es algo en lo que llegas y vas. Quiero agradecer a Clyde Stacy y a Justin, a todos en el equipo RPM y a todos los chicos en el taller Geiser. Su ayuda es genial. 

 

ROB MACCACHREN, No. 11 (MacCachren calificó octavo)
Fue bastante bien. Estamos de vuelta con Jimco y Fastball Racing. Tuvimos un poco de pruebas en la temporada baja con los amortiguadores Fox y su nuevo sistema de válvula en vivo, además de las llantas BFGoodrich. Las cosas van bien. Así que hicimos una buena y vuelta limpia de calificación. Las zanjas se están volviendo profundas, así que realmente tienes que tomar bien las curvas, y probablemente ahí es donde nos faltó un poco hoy. Todo el equipo de Jimco está trabajando muy duro en el truck. Quiero agradecer a Bobby Patton por otro año aquí. Estamos súper emocionados de estar aquí. Queremos ganar carreras, terminarlas, tener carreras limpias. Hemos estado aquí recorriendo la euta durante ocho días. Estamos haciendo nuestra tarea.

RICKY JOHNSON, No. 1L (Piloto de puntos – Gustavo Vildósola Señor, calificó primero)
Fue una vuelta limpia. La pista estaba muy marcada por el paso de otros competidores, con zanjas muy profundas. Sentí que nuestra vuelta de calificación fue limpia. Perdí un par de cambios, me quedé atascado en tercera marcha un par de veces, pero la configuración fue excelente. Quiero agradecer a Gus, Fernanda y a todo el equipo Vildósola Racing. Quiero felicitar a mi compañero de equipo, Gustavo, estoy bastante seguro de que estamos con la pole. No estoy seguro de dónde estamos ubicados, pero fue una vuelta limpia. No golpeé ninguna piedra grande y estamos aquí en una sola pieza. Tenemos 250 millas de carrera el sábado. Yo voy a comenzar la carrera y Gus la va a terminar. 

 

RICK D. JOHNSON, No. 37L (Piloto de puntos – Rolf Helland, calificó segundo)
Fue bien, pero la pista de la calificación estaba muy golpeada. Es difícil de decir. Se sintió bien. Estamos en una pequeña desventaja, usamos un motor de gasolina común. Creo que estaremos en una buena posición. San Felipe es muy difícil, pero la carrera va a ser rápida. Estamos ansiosos por el sábado.

 

LARRY ROESELER, No. 61L (Piloto de puntos - David Payne, calificó tercero)
Fue emocionante, eso es seguro. Estos trucks Mason de doble tracción son increíbles. No he tenido mucho tiempo en ellos, pero son absolutamente asombrosos. No puedo agradecer lo suficiente a estos chicos: David Payne, Murph. Es impresionante lo profundas que se ponen las zanjas y lo increíbles que son estos trucks para atravesar lo más difícil. Fue emocionante, fue divertido. Claro, el sábado será la gran prueba. Yo voy a comenzar y hacer las primeras 165 millas. Hay muchas secciones nuevas. Gracias a SCORE por ser creativos y crear algunas opciones. Hay muchos buenos arroyos. Hay cosas nuevas y múltiples opciones, lo que lo hace divertido.

Esta fue una pista bastante salvaje. Creo que estaremos al frente. Tuvimos una buena vuelta. Nos estamos divirtiendo mucho. Nos encanta San Felipe. Es difícil y ese es mi estilo de manejo. Quiero esa victoria en esta nueva clase de SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD. El truck está increíble. Hace unas semanas en los Estados Unidos ganamos y eso fue un gran logro. Mi meta ahora es ganar en México. Estamos trabajando duro. Hemos invertido tiempo y esfuerzo en esto. Vamos a hacer que suceda. 

NIC WHETSTONE, No. 18T (Whetstone calificó tercero)
Fe una pista técnica. Desafortunadamente, nos dimos vuelta en una de las curvas, así que eso no fue genial. Tuvimos un pequeño contratiempo ahí, pero el resto fue a toda velocidad, tratando de llevarlo a casa para la clase de los SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD. Pero eso no lo es todo. Tenemos la carrera el sábado, así que necesitamos enfocarnos en eso. Vamos a hacer un poco de tarea sobre eso. Acabo de llegar de Australia. Estoy emocionado de estar aquí. Tengo mucho trabajo por hacer. Es difícil saber qué está pasando con el truck en esta pista tan corta, pero todo se siente bien. No me puedo quejar. Hemos hecho algo de recorridos y hoy tenemos más por hacer. 

 

CAMERON STEELE, No. 16T (Steele calificó quinto)
Todo fue bastante bien hasta que cometí un error y me salí de la pista. Perdí la noción de dónde estaba, lo cual fue raro, siendo corredor de motocross pensé que lo tenía controlado. Por alguna razón, mis ojos miraron en una dirección y yo me metí en estos dos agujeros gigantes. Pero el truck número 16T Monster Energy estuvo perfecto. La pista de calificación de este año fue más transitable. Creo que los trucks de tracción sencilla se van a divertir mucho en la carrera. Los de doble tracción nos van a destrozar solo por la tracción, pero no se gana en la calificación, se gana al final de la carrera. 

 

SCORE TROPHY TRUCK SPEC

JASON MCNEIL, No. 234 (McNeil calificó primero)
Tuvimos un gran truck en la calificación. Tenemos esto completamente ajustado. Corrimos bien en la calificación y parece que conseguimos el primer lugar. Estoy realmente emocionado de poner en marcha este espectáculo. San Felipe realmente se adapta a nuestro estilo de conducción. Honestamente, estoy muy emocionado de estar de vuelta en el truck TSCO; no he estado en el truck en unos ocho meses, desde nuestro último accidente. Es hora. Es hora de quitar el polvo. Esta carrera no es la típica SCORE San Felipe 250. Hay muchos arroyos secos. Me gustan los arroyos de ese tipo. Hay muchas piedras. Estamos listos para el sábado.

 

JUSTIN DAVIS, No. 285 (Davis calificó séptimo)
Fue más o menos, pero la calificación no es la carrera. Veremos dónde terminamos. Serán 250 millas divertidas. Estuvo ajustado, un poco técnico, estábamos tratando de encontrar el ritmo adecuado y nos perdimos un par de cosas. Para la carrera, conocemos muy bien la ruta y sabemos nuestras líneas, así que estaremos bien para la competencia.

 

THOR HERBST, No. 200 (Herbst calificó decimotercero)
No fue una gran vuelta para mí, pero lo reunimos y esperamos haber regresado con una vuelta fluida. Ojalá tengamos un buen inicio. Fue una buena pista para la calificación. Para la carrera, esperemos solo mantenernos sin errores. En la clase SCORE Trophy Truck Spec, quien la mantenga más limpia y sin errores, gana. Ese es el objetivo. Yo voy a comenzar y hacer la primera mitad, y mi hermano conducirá la segunda mitad de la ruta.

 

SANTIAGO CREEL, No. 260 (Creel calificó en el lugar 28)
La pista de la calificación fue realmente rápida. Hubo partes difíciles con arroyos y arena. Estaba muy resbaladizo, pero no realmente peligroso, lo cual es bueno, así que fue muy rápido. Esperábamos estar en el top 10 o top 15.
