SCORE TROPHY TRUCK

TOBY PRICE, No. 46 (Price qualified first.) - - Yeah the course looks short and sweet, definitely a little tight and some rocks in there. But, other than that, the truck, everything, all feels really good. So we're just going to try and keep it on four wheels, have a good run, good clean run. There's 400 miles of racing to go so we'll get out there and enjoy it and we'll see you back here at the finish line. I'll do the start of the race and then Paul should jump in towards the end there. So yeah, it'll be a fight to the finish. The season's been good so far.

ALAN AMPUDIA, No. 1 (Ampudia qualified second.) - - It was a lot of fun, we had a lot of fun. We knew that with the mixed classes and the track deteriorating a little more, we knew that we were going to have to push a little bit to be in that top five. Right now it's very fast, so we didn't want Toby to leave us again and have to fight so much at the end of the race. But apparently, my dad just told me that I'm in second place, so I'm very happy. I don't always like to start so far ahead, but it's part of the show and we're going to give it our all.

 

Fue muy divertido, nos divertimos muchísimo. LUKE MCMILLIN, No. 83 (McMillin qualified fourth.) - - We had a clean run. Nothing too crazy. Drove the truck hard, but kept it in line and it was a lot of fun. It's fun pushing the truck that hard. We had no issues. Just a couple things I wish I could have cleaned up here and there, but I'm happy with where we're ending up. So nothing too bad, it was a good qualifier. I'm gonna drive the whole race.

ROBBY GORDON, No. 5 (Gordon qualified sixth.) - - It was a good run for us. For a while there, we just watched the replay, and it looked like we were second for a little while, but I gave up quite a bit at the end. We had one big G out, and I did get it off the road into some trees, and that was probably three seconds right there, because it put us on the inside, and then we had to switch back over to go left again. All-in-all, the truck is good, it's fast. We were hoping for more than a sixth place start. So I'll run to race mile 215, then Max will get in at 215 and take it to the finish.

BRYCE MENZIES, No. 7 (Menzies qualified seventh in class, eighth overall.) - - Yeah, the course is actually, it's pretty quick compared to how it usually is, but it's very torn up. So many cars have gone before us. So a lot of ruts, a lot of rocks have moved around, a lot of braking bumps going into corners, coming out of corners. So I think it's going to be very challenging. I think if you're not on top of your game, a lot of mistakes are going to be happening out there. So I'm glad we're going first. But overall, we just want to be in the top five, come out of this thing with a good starting position and get ready for the race. The car seems good. Everything felt good. It's hard to judge it now with a little bit of a speed limit going on our practice lap. But overall, everything feels good and getting ready for qualifying. I feel good, everything is back. All my health is back to normal. So glad to be back down here in Baja. It was a long time, but we're back in the SCORE Baja 400.

ROB MACCACHREN, No. 11 (MacCachren qualified ninth in class, eleventh overall.) - - It's good, you know, it's our practice run, just getting around the track, learning all the corners. I got Bobby Smith from Fox Motorsport Shocks riding with me and we're excited. We got a new paint scheme on the Fastball number 11 truck, so the truck's looking pretty racy now. Everyone at Jimco has worked super hard on the truck between the SCORE Baja 500 and now. I want to thank the sponsors, Fastball Racing, Bobby Patton, BF Goodrich Tires, Fox Shocks. VP Racing Fuels, KC Lights and Vision Wheel. Thank all them for everything they do and we're excited. We want to get up as high in the qualifying orders that we can and have a good race. Been down here for like a week pre-running and, of course, it's fun.

CAMERON STEELE, No. 16T (Steele qualified second in class, eighteenth overall.) - - I think it was okay. We didn't go crazy. We just put in a quick lap and you know, we're racing for a championship. So, we won’t ruin the truck here in qualifying. Just want to shout out to everybody in Mexico as we get close to Mexican Independence day; we will be celebrating this weekend. Very cool. Also, our thoughts are with all those lost in 911. Yeah, today is 911. It's a tough day for our world. And, of course, yesterday's terrible, just absolutely terrible. So, you know, we had to come out here and clear our head to drive. It's a lot going on, to think about. So, just praying for everybody and pray everybody stays safe here and in the race. And then we can all have fun and celebrate this weekend. I think the truck's OK. We didn't push it too hard. You know, we go fast, but not crazy fast. That's for the kids. The kids like to go fast. We like to be in the top five at the end of the race, at the finish line, 400 miles from now. Gracias.

ROBERTO ROMO JR. No. 33T (Romo qualified fourth in class, twenty-third overall.) - - The truth is that it's a very technical track, very slippery, but very happy with the result we gave. Let's just hope it stays that way until the race. I think it's the jumps, with the bumps, there are curves and there are blind spots where you can't see a rock and you can make a mistake. A mistake here is like Formula 1 - a little mistake and you go backwards. I'll be running by myself.

 

La verdad es que es una pista de calificación muy técnica, muy resbaladiza, pero estoy muy contento con el resultado. Esperemos que siga así hasta la carrera. Creo que son los saltos, los hoyos, las curvas y los puntos ciegos donde no se ve una roca y se puede cometer un error. Un error aquí es como en la Fórmula 1: un pequeño error y te vas para atrás. Correré solo.

 

RYAN POELMAN, No. 62T (Poelman qualified sixth in class, thirtieth overall.) - - Mr. Ryan did very well. No whammies. Hopefully we got a good time. I'm not sure yet, but truck was great. Thanks to Mr. John Hoffman. He's a great man. Gavo right here did a great job calling the course. We had about forty waypoint notes that we did in the sight lap and he did an awesome job. So hopefully we got a good spot. I'm starting on Saturday. I'm driving to about mile 230 and then my son, Dodge, is getting in. Truck ran great. No whammies, no issues. Totally perfect. So hopefully, we have a nice same kind of run that we got in qualifying. Nice and clean. 

 

El señor Ryan lo hizo muy bien. Sin contratiempos. Espero que hayamos logrado un buen tiempo. Aún no estoy seguro, pero el truck estuvo genial. Gracias al señor John Hoffman. Es una gran persona. Gavo, aquí mismo, hizo un excelente trabajo al ir leyendo las notas de la pista de la calificación. PAT DEAN, No. 19T (DOR Tim Herbst. Dean qualified seventh in class, thirty-second overall.) - - We had a wonderful truck. I think we had a good run with the BFGoodrich tires. We just put a new Dougan motor in this thing, which was phenomenal. So the whole Herbst Motorsports team did a great job and hopefully when the times come out we did pretty good. First half was fast; Second half was technical. But, I think we did a pretty good job, we hope. Saturday, I will start with my co-rider Shane. Tim Herbst and his navigator Caleb will get in at mile marker 150. 

 

Tuvimos un truck maravilloso. Creo que tuvimos una buena carrera con las llantas BFGoodrich. Acabamos de ponerle un nuevo motor Dougan, que fue fenomenal. SAM BALDI, No. 85T (Baldi qualified eighth in class, 38th overall.) - -  I think it went fine. We got a little excited on one of the turns and had to go around a tree, but, I think it went pretty good for us. Our truck is in good shape. We had a lot of fun and it was shorter than when we normally qualify and had tight, twisty turns. It was a lot of fun. The truck is good. We're gonna race this thing on Saturday.

 

Creo que estuvo bien. Nos emocionamos un poco en una curva y tuvimos que rodear un árbol, pero creo que nos fue bastante bien. Nuestro truck está en buen estado. Nos divertimos mucho y fue más corta que cuando clasificamos normalmente, con curvas cerradas y sinuosas. Fue muy divertido. El truck está bien. Vamos a correr con ella el sábado.

 

SCORE TROPHY TRUCK SPEC

JASON MCNEIL, No. 234 (McNeil qualified first in class, thirteenth overall.) - - It was wild. We went off the course a couple of times, but I mean, we did our best. I think that we're on top, so we'll just have to wait until the times come out. The car was good. Like I said, we just kind of stepped out a couple of times, nothing crazy, and then tried to gather back up, and I think we still got the top spot. 

 

Fue una locura. Nos salimos de la pista un par de veces, pero bueno, hicimos lo mejor que pudimos. Creo que estamos en la cima, así que tendremos que esperar a que salgan los tiempos. El truck estuvo bien. Como dije, simplemente nos salimos un par de veces, nada del otro mundo, y luego intentamos recuperar el terreno perdido, y creo que aún así conseguimos el primer puesto.

 

JUSTIN DAVIS, No. 285 (Davis qualified second in class, fourteenth overall.) - - We had a clean run, I don't know times-wise, but we'll see. We didn't take too many chances. There's always places you go back and think you can make up more, but we had a solid run. I think we'll be where we need to be for race day and we'll see what happens. Truck was flawless. Truck did everything it needed to do. Handled great. No issues. We're happy with it. We're still in one piece. We get to race on Saturday.

 

Tuvimos una carrera impecable, no sé los tiempos, pero ya veremos. No nos arriesgamos demasiado. Siempre hay momentos en los que piensas que puedes recuperar algo, pero tuvimos una calificación muy sólida. Creo que estaremos donde debemos estar el día de la carrera y veremos qué pasa. El truck estuvo impecable. Hizo todo lo que tenía que hacer. Se comportó de maravilla. Sin problemas. Estamos contentos con ella. Seguimos intactos. Estamos listos para correr el sábado.

 

JORDAN DEAN. No. 227 (DOR-Jack Olliges. Dean qualified fifth in class, seventeenth overall.) - - The run felt good. I blew one little corner down into a wash. But other than that, I try to just stay smooth. That's what I really try to always do is take my time, make sure we have a good run. So I don't know. We'll see. I mean, I feel pretty good about it. But I know there's a lot of fast guys out there. Justin Davis, you got Jason McNeil, Ryan Millen. I mean, these guys are no joke who we're competing against. It's an honor to race against them and it's a major privilege to have the opportunity to drive this truck. The Olliges family owns the truck and they've always been extremely great to me, allowing me to race their stuff. So huge shout out to Steve and Jack Olliges and the whole Olliges family, the Team Ford group. Amazing people and we wouldn't be here without them. This truck is fast. I mean this is a brand new One Nine Industry built. The Terrible Herbst team did an amazing job. I mean this truck is so sporty, so fast. I really have no complaints. I will be starting and doing the whole race. I will be driving the whole thing.

 

La carrera se sintió bien. Pasé una pequeña curva por un arroyo. Pero aparte de eso, intento mantener la calma. Yeah, no, it was a good run. Pretty tight, technical, super fun qualifying course. So yeah, it went, I'd say, pretty good. I think I ran a pretty strong pace. Didn't put it all out there, but hopefully that'll land us in the top five of our class, hopefully top 10 overall. But I know the class is stacked and there's a lot of fast guys. All in all, the truck is in one piece. We got a good truck for race day. So we'll see where we stack up. All in all it was a fun run. Thank you to SCORE and thank you for everyone that gets me out here. 

 

Sí, fue una buena calificación. Un circuito de calificación bastante estrecho, técnico y súper divertido. Así que fue bastante bien. Creo que corrí a un ritmo muy fuerte. No lo di todo, pero espero que eso nos lleve entre los cinco primeros lugares de nuestra clase, o incluso entre los diez primeros en forma overall. THOR HERBST, No. 200 (Herbst qualified sixteenth in class, forty-first overall.) - - Qualifying course is fun. It was a little shorter than normal, but it was really quick and a lot of little technical stuff. But, it was a great course they laid out and I think it'll be interesting to see where we finish. I thought we had a great run, no real mistakes. We could have been faster in a few spots, but at the end of the day you don't want to wreck it before the race. Car feels great, always feels great. So I'll be starting on Saturday and then my brother Pierce Herbst will be getting in at the halfway point and hopefully he'll take it to the win. This one nine industries, Terrible Herbst Motorsports, Monster energy car feels amazing. 

 

El circuito de la calificación es divertido. Fue un poco más corto de lo normal, pero fue muy rápido y con muchos detalles técnicos. Sin embargo, el circuito que diseñaron fue excelente y creo que será interesante ver dónde terminamos. Tuvimos una carrera excelente, sin errores importantes. CLASS 1

TIM WILSON, No. 162 (DOR Brendan Gaughan. Willson qualified third in class, thirty-seventh overall.) - - It was awesome. I got the call from Brendan on Thursday if I wanted to come down and race a buggy. It's my first time ever and this is a blast. I love it. This course was really fun and I can't wait for the race. The Collins Motorsports guys prep this thing and it feels great.  I think this is a great area to qualify. It's awesome. I'm doing the start to race mile 240. It's really tight and technical this time, which I think I'm lucking out. I'm getting a buggy this time and no big old hood to look over. I think it's gonna be great.

 

Fue increíble. Brendan (Gaughan) me llamó el jueves para preguntarme si quería ir a correr un buggy. Es mi primera vez en una “arañita” y es genial. Me encanta. Este circuito de calificación fue muy divertido y estoy deseando que llegue la carrera. Los chicos de Collins Motorsports prepararon el buggy y se siente genial. Creo que es una zona fantástica para calificar. Es genial. Arrancaré esta carrera y me bajo en la milla 240. Esta vez es un tramo muy estrecho y técnico, y creo que tengo suerte.
