‘SCORE Saturday’—nationally Dec. 24 on CBS Sports Network to air first 3 rounds of 2016 SCORE World Desert Championship

Coverage of multiple classes with repeats  of first three rounds of SCORE World Desert Championship— SCORE San Felipe 250, SCORE Baja 500 and Rosarito Beach SCORE Desert Challenge— featuring classes for Pro and Sportsman cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads.       ENSENADA, Mexico—Christmas comes early for SCORE International during a very special ‘SCORE Saturday’ as all three of the opening rounds of the 2016 SCORE World Desert Championship and last Sunday’s SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway will have twin repeat airings as one-hour specials on the same day as part of the CBS Sports Spectacular show. Following the initial early evening airing of the first three races of the season, plus the SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying, all four shows will all be aired again in a time block of eight consecutive hours. As an added bonus on Christmas night (Sunday), the CBS Sports Network will air the premier broadcast of the two-hour 49th SCORE Baja 1000 results show at 6 p.m. PT. All three races held in Mexico and the SCORE Baja 1000 qualifying will be running in an eight-hour time block in chronological order will start at 6 p.m. PT with the 30th annual SCORE San Felipe 250 followed by the 48th annual SCORE Baja 500, the Rosarito Beach 20th SCORE Desert Challenge and the SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying. Round 1 was held in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico in late February, Round 2 was held in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, the first weekend of June, Round 3 was held in Rosarito Beach, Baja California, Mexico in mid-September and the SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience and SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying was held in Las Vegas the first week of November. The SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience and SCORE Baja 1000, both presented by BFGoodrich Tires, spotlight the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck and Trophy Truck Spec classes. Earning the surprise overall victory in the season-opening 30th SCORE San Felipe 250 on the 259-mile course was class rookie Billy Wilson, 30, of Corpus Christi, Texas, driving the No. 15 Bevly Wilson Racing Chevy Silverado in the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck division for high-tech, 850-horsepower unlimited production trucks. Mexico’s Gus Vildosola Jr, 33, of Mexicali, roared to the Overall and SCORE Trophy Truck victory in the 48th SCORE Baja 500 in early June, driving the No. 21 Branix Mexicana Logistics Ford Raptor on the 477.52-mile race course. In mid-September, Mexico’s Juan C. Lopez, 42, of Tecate won over his talented son Carlos ‘Apdaly’ Lopez to capture the special-formatted, history-making Rosarito Beach 20th SCORE Desert Challenge. Marking the first SCORE race ever held in the Rosarito Beach area, the elder Lopez drove the No. 17 RPM Racing Chevy Silverado to win the 128.4-mile race that was held over two days with each vehicle running two laps per day over the 32.1-mile race course. In the special qualifying session for the 49th SCORE Baja 1000 on Nov. 1 at the LVMS Off-Road Track, helped by a huge assist from short-course racing champion co-driver Kyle LeDuc, Riviera Racing’s Mark Post earned the first starting position in the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division for the 49th annual SCORE Baja 1000. LeDuc was the fastest qualifier with the quickest time over three laps of the .7-mile LVMS Off-Road Track in the No. 3 Riviera Racing Ford F-150. Fastest qualifier in the Trophy Truck Spec class was Costa Rica’s Javier Quiros in the No. 244 Toyota Tacoma. The trio of racer winners and LeDuc will be spotlighted during Saturday’s repeat telecasts of their respective races and the qualifying event on the CBS Sports Network. 2016 SCORE WORLD DESERT CHAMPIONSHIP PODIUMS…

  • ROUND 1—30th SCORE SAN FELIPE 250
While Billy Wilson drove patiently and capitalized on pre-race favorites Vildosola Jr and B.J. Baldwin, Wilson won in the first race in his new class. Second was Corey Keysar, Colorado Springs, Colo., just under two minutes behind Wilson in the No. 98 Ford F-150 and completing the podium was Mexico’s ‘Apdaly’ Lopez, in the No. 1 RPM Racing Chevy Rally Truck to finish third overall and in SCORE Trophy Truck.
  • ROUND 2—48th SCORE BAJA 500
Running his race with a different strategy after opening the season with a DNF, Mexico’s Gus ‘Tavo’ Vildosola Jr won the overall and SCORE Trophy Truck victory in the No. 21 Vildosola Racing Branix Ford Raptor by almost three minutes over Las Vegas’ Hall of Fame desert racer Rob MacCachren in the No. 11 Rockstar Energy MacCachren Motorsports F-150. Third in SCORE Trophy Truck and overall was Mexico’s ‘Apdaly’ Lopez for the second straight race in the No. 1 RPM Racing Chevy Rally Truck. Vildosola Jr made history by becoming just the ninth racer in SCORE history to win the SCORE Baja Racing Triple Crown. He has now won the overall in the SCORE San Felipe 250, SCORE Baja 500 and SCORE Baja 1000.
  • ROUND 3—ROSARITO BEACH 20th SCORE DESERT CHALLENGE
Racing for the first-time in the Rosarito Beach area in, the special format, two-days of racing event turned into a father/son battle at the end. Winning was Juan C. Lopez, Tecate, Mexico overcoming his son Carlos ‘Apdaly’ Lopez who finished third while finishing second in between the two was Billy Wilson in the No. 15 Bevly Wilson Racing Chevy Silverado.
  • QUALIFYING—49th SCORE BAJA 1000
     While co-driver Leduc earned the top qualifying spot for Riviera Racing’s Mark Post, second fastest was last year’s top qualifier Ricky Johnson, co-driver for RPM Racing Justin Matney and their quickest was Robby Gordon in the No. 200 Chevy Silverado, using the vehicle number of his late father ‘Baja’ Bob Gordon who died tragically in September of this year. BFGOODRICH TIRES—86/41 Their third overall victory of the 2016 SCORE World Desert Championship at the Rosarito Beach SCORE Desert Challenge also represented the 86th overall win in SCORE Baja racing for long-time SCORE major sponsor BFGoodrich Tires which celebrated its 41st season in SCORE Baja racing in 2016. OVERALL MOTORCYCLE WINNERS On the way to keeping the No. 1x plate for 2017, Colton Udall, Yucca Valley, Calif., won all three of the first rounds of the 2016 SCORE World Desert Championship on the No. 1x Ox Motorsports Honda CRF450X. Udall and teammate Mark Samuels, Yucca Valley, Calif., split the seat time in the SCORE San Felipe 250 and the SCORE Baja 500 while Udall rode solo to victory in the Rosarito Beach SCORE Desert Challenge.
