Veteran tourism executive Juan Tintos joins SCORE management team as Mexico Liaison
SCORE MEDIA CONTACT: Dominic Clark, dominiccnv@aol.com January 23, 2017 Four-race 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship opens March 30-April 2 with 31st SCORE San Felipe 250 ENSENADA, Mexico—Introduced recently at the annual SCORE Awards Night, two-time Baja California Secretary of Tourism Juan Tintos has officially become part of the SCORE Management team as the Mexico Liaison. Roger Norman, SCORE CEO/President introduced the veteran tourism executive and government official to a welcoming crowd of over 400 that filled the transformed SCORE Tech Shop in El Cajon, Calif. on Jan. 14. A close friend of former SCORE owner Sal Fish as well as a personal family friend of current SCORE owners Roger and Elise Norman, Tintos is a native of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. He served twice for a total of 12 years as the Baja California Secretary of Tourism (1992-2001 and 2010-2013) and is a graduate of the School of Tourism at the Autonomous University of Baja California. Tintos was a catalyst in bringing the SCORE World Desert Championship to Rosarito Beach, Mexico for the first time last September in his capacity as a consultant to the municipal government of Rosarito Beach. The Rosarito Beach 21st SCORE Desert Challenge will be held again this year on Sept. 14-17. WELCOME JUAN “Juan Tintos has been a long-time family friend of ours and it is indeed an honor to have him be able to join our SCORE Management Team as our SCORE Mexico Liaison,” commented Roger Norman. “Juan has tremendous experience not only in the area of tourism, but even more experience and knowledge in dealing with all the different types of Mexican government officials and police agencies that we work with to produce our SCORE Baja races.” “He has worked both on the side of the government and the side of the tourism industry in Mexico which brings SCORE an immeasurable amount of stability and insight to our relationship with all the different agencies and individuals we work with each race in Baja California.” JUAN-LOG Tintos has an accomplished resume as a visionary of tourism activity in Baja California and Mexico during his career as a government official and now has a consultant. Earlier in his career he also spent six years as the assistant director of the Tijuana Cultural Center (1983-1989) and was also elected as President of the Tijuana Hotel Association for three years. Tintos has developed and promoted many of Baja California’s most important and successful tourism programs and projects for nearly 25 years. Among the highlights were his involvement in securing the filming of the movie ‘Titanic’ and several other productions that followed to help establish the film industry in the state. He also developed and produced the first tourism related teach materials for schools in all of Mexico.” JUAN REMARKS “Like many people in Baja California, I grew up with SCORE and desert racing, having been involved as a spectator, volunteer, marking courses, a little bit of racing and as a government official over the last 30 years,” said Tintos. “Now I am excited and honored that I’ll be on the other side of the desk in support of Roger and Elise as well as Jose A., Marco, Jim and all of the staff. I am confident that we will help SCORE enjoy an unforgettable 2017 and beyond. Especially this year as SCORE celebrates the 50th anniversary of the iconic SCORE Baja 1000, the Granddaddy of all Desert Races.” SCOREstory SCORE International was founded in 1973 by the late Mickey Thompson and headed by Sal Fish from 1974 until Roger and Elise Norman purchased SCORE on Dec. 20, 2012. SCORE continues as the premier sanctioning body in the sport of desert racing.
