WHAT: 32nd Annual SCORE San Felipe 250 desert race
Round 1 of the four-race 2018 SCORE World Desert Championship
WHEN: April 4-8, 2018
WHERE: San Felipe-Baja California, Mexico (125 miles south of U.S./Mexico Border)
WHO: Over 250 entries (25 U.S. States, host Mexico, Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru)
COURSE: TOTAL MILEAGE: 319 miles (3 physical checkpoints, the finish line, 74 virtual checkpoints). The ruggedly spectacular 319-mile race course runs in a counter-clockwise direction and starts and finishes for the second time on the Malecon. It runs over high-speed dry lake beds, through low-speed winding, rock-strewn, twisting canyons and trails, along quick-paced dirt roads and through four of Baja’s most infamous washes in Las Cuevitas, Matomi, Huatamote and Amarillo. There are two full stop checkpoints in addition to the start/finish line. Checkpoint 1 will be located at El Chinero, the second will be at La Providencia and the third at Old Puertecitos Road. The course also passes near or through 3 Poles, La Ventana, and Laguna Amarga (Borrego) as well as the Diablo dry lake bed. There are two road crossings, both on Highway 3. The first is going north at km 192 after checkpoint 1 and the second one coming south near Laguna Amarga (Borrego), crossing at km 179 on the highway.
