     LAS VEGAS, USA—As an entertaining prelude to the iconic 51st annual SCORE Baja 1000 desert race, 31 of the world’s top racers are heading to Las Vegas for the SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying, presented by BFGoodrich Tires. It will be held at 6 p.m. this coming Tuesday on the Off-Road Track at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

     With the qualifying at the LVMS Off-Road Track, free tickets are available for the event on a limited, first-come, first-served basis. Advance free tickets (with a maximum of four per person) are available while supplies last at the popular 4 Wheel Parts store, located on 3901 West Russell Road in Las Vegas. SEMA Show badge holders will also be admitted free at the gate.

     A total of 31 of the 36 SCORE Trophy Trucks entered to date in the race including four SCORE TT Legend racers have confirmed participation in the optional qualifying for starting positions within their classes, which are combined for starting positions but SCORE separately at the conclusion of the race.

     SCORE Trophy Truck, developed and launched by former SCORE owner Sal Fish in 1994, is the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 950 horsepower unlimited custom trucks and SCORE TT Legend, which debuted in 2017, is the SCORE Trophy Truck class-within-a-class with drivers at least 50 years old.

      Dana will present the Ultimate Dana Fast Qualifier award and Dana will also present live streaming from the entire qualifying session on the SCORE website.

     SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying, presented by BFGoodrich Tires, is part of the massive celebratory SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience, also presented by BFGoodrich Tires, that for the fifth straight year will be a spotlight attraction this coming Tuesday through Friday during the popular annual SEMA Show trade gathering at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

     Prior to qualifying next Tuesday there will be an autograph session from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 (PT). After a briefing with Las Vegas Metro Police at 3 p.m. (PT), the SCORE Trophy Trucks on display will start their engines in unison at 3:30 p.m. (PT) at the SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience to begin their travel on the streets of Las Vegas in a police-escorted procession of the high-flying racing machines to the LVMS Off-Road Track.

     The iconic season-ending Round 4 of the 2018 SCORE World Desert Championship will be held Nov. 12-18, starting and finishing in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.

BAJA MIL

      Over 300 entries, from 35 U.S. States and 20 countries are expected to compete in this year’s 51st anniversary celebration of the SCORE Baja 1000 which is revered worldwide as the Granddaddy of all Desert Races. Race week festivities and the race will be held Nov. 12-18 in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.

     The world’s most iconic, oldest, prestigious and longest continuously held desert race, this year’s SCORE Baja 1000 will be a loop race of 806.76 miles in the northern state of Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula. It will start for the 44th time and finish for the 25th time in Ensenada. The race is annually the finale of the four-race SCORE World Desert Championship, which has been held exclusively for the past three years in Baja California. The start/finish line compound will once again be adjacent to the historic Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center.

     With a total time limit of 36 hours in the elapsed-time race, the motorcycle and quad classes will start at 4 a.m. (PT) on Friday, Nov. 16 and the car, truck and UTV classes will follow with their start on at 10:30 a.m. (PT) on Friday, Nov. 16. The fastest finishers are expected to complete the race in approximately 16 hours.

BEFORE BAJA…VIVA LAS VEGAS

     SCORE Trophy Truck (including the SCORE TT Legend class), the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 950-horsepower, unlimited custom trucks class will have a special qualifying session for start positions at 6 p.m. PT Tuesday, on the Off-Road Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The marquee SCORE racing division will be showcased next week at the massive SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience at the SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

     Both events are presented by BFGoodrich Tires and both are open to the public.

     Free tickets for the SCORE Trophy Truck Qualifying at LVMS are available the 4-Wheel Parts store in Las Vegas at 3901 West Russell Road.

     The starting order for all other classes was determined primarily by the finishing and placement results at September’s Lucerna Hotels & Resorts Tijuana 22nd SCORE Desert Challenge.

ULTIMATE DANA FAST QUALIFIER AWARD

      For the third straight year, international drivetrain manufacturer Dana Incorporated is presenting the Ultimate Dana Fast Qualifier award.

     Dana is also presenting live streaming of the entire qualifying session from LVMS on the SCORE website. Winning the Ultimate Dana Fast Qualifier award in 2016 was Las Vegas’ Mark Post and fastest last year was Robby Gordon, Charlotte, N.C.

SCORE RACERS BEING INDUCTED INTO ORMHOF

     Six new inductees Monday into Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame join 87 current members and five of the six of this year’s honorees have significant ties to SCORE International.  New inductees Johnny Campbell, Mark McMillin, Robbie Pierce and Cameron Steele are all SCORE desert racers and Ed Robinson, former owner of the VORRA desert racing group of Northern California, was a long-time valued course worker for SCORE when Sal Fish was the owner of the racing organization.

     Campbell, Pierce and Steele are all entered in next month’s SCORE Baja 1000 while McMillin will be there to help his sons Daniel and Luke along with his nephew Andy McMillin who will each by driving their own SCORE Trophy Truck in the legendary race.

     The sixth member of the Class of 2018 inductees from the Advocate category is Jim Bramhan.

     The evening Monday includes a silent auction with a hosted cocktail reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. PT, a gourmet dinner at 7 p.m. PT followed by the induction ceremony and 2018 Impact Awards from 7:30 to 9:30 pm PT. Ending the evening will be the 4Wheel Parts After-Party starting at 9:30 p.m. PT.

     The ORMHOF collection is housed in a spacious area at Terrible’s Hotel & Casino (formerly the Gold Strike) in Jean, Nev. and is open 24-hours daily with free admission courtesy of the Herbst Family of Las Vegas.

     The current royalty of desert racing is in this year’s field and leading the way is once again the featured SCORE Trophy Trucks. The SCORE-created class is celebrating its 25th season and there are 35 SCORE Trophy Trucks entered so far in this year’s celebratory race.

WHERE THEY’RE FROM

     To date for November’s 51st SCORE Baja 1000, there are 219 total entries with racers from 35 U.S. States and 16 countries officially signed up to compete. In addition to the United States, the U.S. Territory of Guam and host country Mexico, the other countries with racers entered are Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada, Costa Rica, England, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Peru, Spain and Sweden.

MORE NUMBERS

     Including SCORE Trophy Truck (36), seven total classes already have double figures in terms of entries so far. While several other classes have nearly reached at least 10 entries, the other classes with double figure entries to date are: Trophy Truck Spec (26), Pro UTV FI (Forced Induction) (24), Class 10 (16), unlimited Class 1 (13), Pro UTV NA (Naturally Aspirated) (10) and leading the Sportsman classes is SPT M/C with 13 entries so far.

EL GRAN JEFE—GRAND MARSHAL

     For this year’s 51st SCORE Baja 1000, SCORE International has selected Mexico’s beloved tourism official Nico Saad, the only person who has been behind the scenes at all 50 of the previous races, as the Grand Marshal for this year’s anniversary of the world’s most iconic desert race.

     Honorably humble, unusually unassuming, famously friendly by nature while constantly and consistently working diligently behind the scenes by choice on behalf of SCORE Baja racing for nearly 45 years, Saad is the beloved owner of the San Nicolas Resort and extremely cherished and productive President of Proturismo de Ensenada. Saad is the only person who has been part of all 50 Baja 1000 events, obviously including the 44 produced and sanctioned by SCORE International.
