    ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico— “Celebrating 53 Years of SCORE Desert Racing Excellence,” entries continue to come in rapidly from across the United States and around the world, including competitors such as Tim Herbst, Thor Herbst, EJ Herbst, Ryan Arciero, and Antonio Mendez, as anticipation builds for the opening round of the 2026 SCORE Desert World Championship—the King Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250.

        The SCORE San Felipe 250 will be held March 25–29, 2026, in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico, just steps away from the spectacular Sea of Cortez—a magical destination on the Baja California Peninsula that has hosted this race for more than three decades.

        San Felipe is located approximately 125 miles south of the United States border at Calexico, California, along the eastern coast of the Baja California Peninsula on the shores of the Sea of Cortez. All four rounds of the 2026 SCORE Desert World Championship will take place on the majestic Baja California Peninsula, marking the 11th consecutive year that the entire championship will be held in Mexican territory.

ONLINE RACER ENTRY APPLICATIONS
     Racer entry applications for Pro and Sportsman cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads are now available at www.SCORE-International.com under Race Info on the SCORE San Felipe 250 page. Questions should be directed to SCORE Registration and Membership Director Shannon Lund at 775. 852.8907. Online racer entry applications will be accepted through 9 p.m. PT on Friday, March 13.
     The SCORE Ensenada office will accept walk-in entries up to 5 p.m. PT on Friday, Mar. 20.

THE FIELD
     With over 240 entries anticipated at the start line, as of today 174 total entries have already been received for the “Baby Baja”, with racers representing 21 U.S. States, U.S. Territory Puerto Rico, and 9 countries. The countries with at least one racer so far are United States, host country Mexico, Argentina, Australia, Ecuador, France, Israel, Puerto Rico, and New Zealand.
CUATRO ‘LOS TERRIBLES’
     One of the most legendary families in all of desert racing, the Herbst family has all its second and third generation as racers on the Terrible Herbst Motorsports Monster Energy team from Las Vegas entered for this year’s SCORE San Felipe 250.
     Started by family patriarch the late Jerry Herbst back in the 1970s and carrying through until the 2010s with brothers Ed, Tim, and Troy Herbst, and all the third generation of the Herbst boys have taken to desert racing. Four family members are entered in this year’s SCORE San Felipe 250 in three trucks.
     For this year’s SCORE San Felipe 250, Terrible Herbst Motorsports will have three of its 1 Nine Industries custom trucks in the starting grid, one in SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD and two in Trophy Truck Spec with four Herbst family drivers in the race.
     Driver of record in the No. 19T Monster Energy 1 Nine Industries Ford Raptor in SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD will be Tim Herbst, 62, who will share driving duties with his oldest son from Las Vegas, Thor Herbst, 26.
     Driver of record in the No. 219 1 Nine Industries-Chevy in Trophy Truck Spec will be Tim Herbst’s oldest son Pierce Herbst, 23.
     The third entry is the No. 263 1 Nine Industries-Chevy in Trophy Truck Spec is EJ Herbst, 24, son of Ed Herbst. His second driver will be New Zealand’s Ryan Millen, 40.
     In last year’s SCORE San Felipe 250 in April, Terrible Herbst Motorsports saw Tim Herbst finish third out of 16 starters in SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD while in the Trophy Truck Spec class that had 31 starters, EJ Herbst finished nine with Ryan Millen, and Thor Herbst and his brother Pierce finished 13th in class.
ARCIERO, OFF-ROAD ROYALTY

      Ryan Arciero, 47, Foothill, Calif., hails from a family deeply passionate about motorsports, including his father and Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame member Frank Arciero Jr. Ryan will be the driver of record for the No. 32 Ford Raptor 1 Nine Industries BN3TH.

      Arciero boasts four wins in SCORE Trophy Truck—three with Mark Miller—and currently serves as President of 1 Nine Industries in Fountain Valley, Calif., a company that builds SCORE Trophy Truck and Trophy Truck Specs to meet the most demanding standards in Off-Road racing.

     A third-generation racer and veteran desert racing champion, Ryan Arciero will make his debut in the SCORE Trophy Truck 2WD class, aiming to carry forward his family’s 67-year motorsports legacy, which includes standout moments in series such as PPG Indycar World Series, the American Racing Series, and the USAC National Championship.

MENDEZX2

     Antonio Méndez, 60, Puebla, Mexico, founder of the Garage 18 team and a passionate sports car enthusiast, will compete in the SCORE San Felipe 250 with two Polaris UTVs in the Pro Stock UTV class. He finished fourth last year in this same class.

     Mendez will be the driver of record for the Polaris RZR R UTV No. 3959, with Edmundo ‘Buyangas’ Fernandez as his second driver. The Polaris RZR R UTV No. 3952 will also have Antonio Mendez as the driver of record, with Alonso Gonzalez as the second driver.

      For several years, Mendez and the Garage 18 race team members have dedicated time to visiting schools to raise awareness about the importance of education for Mexican children, as well as safety topics for off-road racing fans and environmental preservation—not only across the Baja California Peninsula but around the world.

GREEN FLAG
     It is an elapsed-time race with staggered starts with the green flag dropping on Saturday (Mar. 28). Motorcycles and Quads will start at 6 a.m. PT, Cars, Trucks, and UTVs will start at 10 a.m. PT.
     While the fastest vehicles in the 281.5-mile race are expected to finish in about 4 and a half hours, the elapsed-time race will have a 14-hour time limit to become an official finisher.
A HAPPENING…
     One day of the colorful pre-race Manufacturer’s Midway, Contingency and Tech inspection will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday (Mar. 27) along the captivating El Malecon along the Sea of Cortez in San Felipe.
     Popular Rat Sult will once again serve as host of the SCORE TV Live streaming. Assisting Sult will once again be veteran voice Kevin Johnson.

     He will also serve as the master of ceremonies for the SCORE San Felipe 250 awards ceremony on Sunday, March 29, at 11:00 a.m. PT, at Pavillion at El Dorado Ranch in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.
     Contingency and the race itself will be streamed live, airing via the internet on the SCORE website and SCORE social media channels. Included in the exclusive race coverage, along with vehicle tracking, will be live drone and in-car camera footage from various locations around the race course. There will also be hosts in the SCORE Studio bringing live updates during the race.

PRE-RUNNING
     Official practice, or pre-running, on the official race course for this year’s King Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250 will open in San Felipe at 8 a.m. PT on Friday, Mar. 20.

      Since the 6th SCORE Baja 400 in last September, new rules have been implemented for race teams during pre-runnings of the race course, always prioritizing the safety of Baja California residents along the race course, both in urban and rural areas.

      SCORE International staff will be present in various sections of the SCORE San Felipe 250 race course to monitor speed and safety, particularly on roads used by local traffic.

      Racers must come to a complete stop at all road crossings, where SCORE will place signage both in the digital race course file and physically along the race course. Racers are required to maintain low speeds when passing through towns along the race course. Digital and physical signs will be placed one mile before and one mile after each town.

      The pre-runnings is not a race. Competitors are expected to drive at moderate speeds, respecting traffic regulations and local residents at all times. Any participant who violates the pre-running rules—either with documented evidence or reported by SCORE officials—will face penalties prior to the race, as determined by the SCORE Race Director, Jose A. Grijalva.

METHOD RACE WHEELS QUALIFYING
     For just the six time in the history of this popular ‘Spring Break’ race, SCORE will once again hold the Method Race Wheels qualifying session starting at 7 a.m. PT on Thursday, March 26 to determine the starting positions within each class for the SCORE Trophy Truck, SCORE TT 2WD, SCORE TT Legend, Class 1 and Trophy Truck Spec classes.
     The starting order for qualifying in each class will be determined by the date and time that the registration entry is received. Entries received in the qualifying classes received after Friday, March 13 will be given the next available starting slot within their respective classes.

     A new, more user-friendly format is now available for media registration, thanks to the vision of Jack Wright from nMedia3, always aiming to provide maximum coverage opportunities for the press throughout the SCORE season. The deadline for online media registration is Friday, March 20.
    The SCORE Media Center will also offer in-person registration at the Hotel Stella del Mar in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico, on Wednesday, March 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. PT; Thursday, March 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. PT; and Friday, March 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PT.

THE BEGINNING

        In 1982, then-SCORE owner Sal Fish decided to add a third race to the SCORE calendar in the Baja California Peninsula, giving rise to the SCORE San Felipe 250.

        The inaugural race in 1982 featured 232 teams, with 133 finishing the popular “Spring Break” event. In the vehicle class, Dan Cornwell claimed victory behind the wheel of a Volkswagen-powered Chenowth buggy in Class 1. After many years behind the wheel, Cornwell also served for several years, until recently, as Technical Director of SCORE International.

        In motorcycles, the winner of the first 1982 edition was Bob Balentine, who triumphed on a Honda XR500 in Class 22.

     The original SCORE International was founded in 1973 by the late Mickey Thompson and headed by Sal Fish from 1974 until Fish sold SCORE International on Dec. 20, 2012. SCORE continues as the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization. SCORE races feature classes for Pro and Sportsman cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads competing in the internationally-televised four-race SCORE World Desert Championship.

     Ensenada, Baja California, México– “Celebrando 53 Años de Excelencia de SCORE en las Carreras del Desierto”, en este año se cuenta con inscritos agregándose en forma veloz de diferentes partes de los Estados Unidos y alrededor del mundo, como Tim Herbst, Thor Herbst, E.J. Herbst, Ryan Arciero y Antonio Méndez, para el tan esperado comienzo del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2026 de SCORE International, la edición 39 de la King Shocks SCORE San Felipe 250.

     La SCORE San Felipe 250 se realizará del 25 al 29 de Marzo de 2026 en el municipio de San Felipe, Baja California, México, a unos pasos del espectacular Mar de Cortez, un sitio mágico de la península de Baja California que es sede de esta carrera desde hace más de 3 décadas.

      San Felipe se encuentra a 125 millas al sur de la frontera con Estados Unidos, en Calexico, California, en la costa este de la península de Baja California, a lo largo del Mar de Cortés.       Las inscripciones en línea para corredores estarán disponibles hasta las 9 de la noche (hora del Pacífico) del Viernes 13 de Marzo.

      Asimismo, la oficina de SCORE en Ensenada aceptará inscripciones presenciales hasta las 5 de la tarde (hora del Pacífico) del Viernes 20 de Marzo.

LA PARRILLA DE SALIDA

      Con más de 240 inscripciones anticipadas en la línea de salida, hasta el día de hoy ya se han recibido 174 registros de equipos para la “Baby Baja”, con corredores que representan a 21 estados de los Estados Unidos, el territorio estadounidense de Puerto Rico y 9 países.

       Los países que cuentan con al menos un competidor hasta el momento son Estados Unidos, el país anfitrión México, Argentina, Australia, Ecuador, Francia, Israel, Puerto Rico y Nueva Zelanda.

BIEN “TERRIBLES”

        Una de las familias más legendarias en toda la historia del automovilismo en el desierto, la familia Herbst cuenta con representantes de su segunda y tercera generación compitiendo con el equipo Terrible Herbst Motorsports Monster Energy de Las Vegas, todos inscritos para la edición de este año de la SCORE San Felipe 250.

        El equipo fundado por el patriarca de la familia, el fallecido Jerry Herbst, en la década de 1970, y continuado posteriormente por sus hijos Ed Herbst, Tim Herbst y Troy Herbst hasta la década de 2010, ahora toda la tercera generación de los Herbst también se ha involucrado en las carreras fuera de camino.

        Cuatro miembros de la familia estarán compitiendo en la edición de este año de la SCORE San Felipe 250, participando con tres Trucks diferentes.

        Para esta edición, el equipo Terrible Herbst Motorsports contará con tres de sus trucks 1 Nine Industries en la parrilla de salida: uno en los SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD y dos en la categoría Trophy Truck Spec, con cuatro pilotos de la familia Herbst en competencia.

        El piloto de puntos del Ford Raptor Monster Energy 1 Nine Industries Número 19T en la categoría SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD será Tim Herbst, de 62 años, quien compartirá el volante con su hijo mayor, también de Las Vegas, Thor Herbst, de 26 años.

        El corredor de puntos del truck 1 Nine Industries-Chevy Número 219 en la clase Trophy Truck Spec será el hijo mayor de Tim Herbst, Pierce Herbst, de 23 años.

        La tercera participación será el truck 1 Nine Industries-Chevy Número 263 en la clase Trophy Truck Spec, manejado por E.J. Herbst, de 24 años, hijo de Ed Herbst. Su relevo al volante será el neozelandés Ryan Millen, de 40 años.

        En la edición del año pasado de la SCORE San Felipe 250, celebrada en Abril, el equipo Terrible Herbst Motorsports vio a Tim Herbst finalizar en tercer lugar entre 16 participantes de la categoría SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD.

        Y en la clase Trophy Truck Spec, que contó con 31 participantes, E.J. Herbst finalizó en noveno lugar junto a Ryan Millen, mientras que Thor Herbst y su hermano Pierce concluyeron en la posición 13.

ARCIERO, LA REALEZA DEL OFF-ROAD

       Ryan Arciero, de 47 años, y de Foothill, Calif., quien proviene de una familia con enorme pasión por el automovilismo, incluido su padre y miembro del Salón de la Fama del Off-Road, Frank Arciero Junior, será el piloto de récord del Ford Raptor 1 Nine Industries BN3TH Número 32.

       Arciero cuenta con 4 triunfos en los SCORE Trophy Trucks, 3 de ellos fueron con Mark Miller, y es el actual Presidente de la empresa 1 Nine Industries de Fountain Valley, Calif., que fabrica SCORE Trophy Trucks y Trophy Trucks Specs para satisfacer los gustos más exigentes en el Off-Road.

       Tercera generación y veterano campeón de las carreras del desierto, Ryan Arciero, estará debutando en la clase SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD, pensando en extender el legado familiar de 67 años en el deporte motor, de la mano de grandes momentos en series como la Indy Car, American Racing Series, y el Campeonato Nacional USAC.

MÉNDEZ AL CUADRADO

        Antonio Méndez, de 60 años, y de Atlixco, Puebla, México, fundador del equipo Garage 18 y un apasionado de los carros deportivos, estará participando en la SCORE San Felipe 250 con 2 UTV´s Polaris en la clase Pro Stock UTV, quien finalizó cuarto el año pasado en esta carrera dentro de la misma clase.

       Méndez es el piloto de récord del UTV Polaris RZR R Número 3959, y Edmundo “Buyangas” Fernández será el segundo piloto de Méndez en este UTV. El UTV Polaris RZR R Número 3952 tendrá al volante al corredor Antonio Méndez, y también como piloto de récord, y Alonso González será el segundo corredor de este UTV.

       Desde hace varios años, Méndez y los integrantes del equipo Garage 18 dedican tiempo a visitar escuelas para crear conciencia sobre la importancia del estudio en los niños mexicanos, así como temas de seguridad para los aficionados a las carreras de Off-Road, y la preservación del medio ambiente, no solamente en la península de Baja California, sino en todo el mundo.

BANDERAZO DE SALIDA

        Se trata de una carrera por tiempo con salidas de uno por uno para los corredores, donde la bandera verde caerá el Sábado 28 de Marzo. Las motocicletas de 2 y 4 llantas arrancarán a las 6 de la mañana, tiempo del Pacífico, mientras que los carros lo harán a las 10 de la mañana, tiempo del Pacífico.

         Aunque se espera que los vehículos más rápidos en la carrera de 281.5 millas terminen en aproximadamente cuatro horas y media, la competencia contará con un límite de 14 horas para convertirse en finalista oficial.

UN EVENTO IMPERDIBLE

         La revisión mecánica y la exhibición de productos relacionados con la industria del Off-Road se llevará a cabo el Viernes 27 de Marzo, de 8 de la mañana a 5 de la tarde, tiempo del Pacífico, a lo largo del mágico Malecón de San Felipe a unos pasos del Mar de Cortez.

         El popular Rat Sult volverá a fungir como anfitrión de la transmisión en vivo de SCORE TV. A su lado estará nuevamente la voz experimentada de Kevin Johnson.

         Sult también será el maestro de ceremonias de la entrega de premios de la SCORE San Felipe 250 el Domingo 29 de Marzo, a las 11 de la mañana, tiempo del Pacífico, en el Pabellón de El Dorado Ranch en San Felipe, Baja California, México.

        La revisión mecánica y la carrera se transmitirán en vivo a través de internet en la página de internet de SCORE y en sus redes sociales. La cobertura exclusiva incluirá seguimiento satelital de vehículos y motocicletas, imágenes en vivo desde drones y cámaras a bordo desde distintos puntos de la ruta. También habrá conductores en el estudio de SCORE proporcionando actualizaciones en tiempo real durante la competencia desértica.

RECORRIDOS

        Del 20 de Marzo al 27 de Marzo de 2026 será el periodo exclusivo de recorridos para los equipos participantes en la SCORE San Felipe 250, carrera conocida como “La Bebé de las Bajas” que se llevará a cabo a lo largo de las costas vírgenes del Mar de Cortés, en el lado este de la península de Baja California.

       Desde Septiembre de 2025 en la edición 6 de la SCORE Baja 400, se implementaron nuevas reglas para los equipos de competencia en los recorridos de reconocimiento a la ruta de carrera, siempre pensando en la seguridad de los ciudadanos de Baja California por donde pasará la carrera, tanto en la ciudad, como en zonas rurales.

       Staff de SCORE International estará en diferentes zonas de la ruta de la SCORE San Felipe 250 para observar temas de velocidad y temas de seguridad, en especial dentro de caminos usados por el tráfico local.

       Los corredores deben de hacer alto total en los cruces de camino, zonas en la que SCORE colocará señalamientos, tanto en el archivo digital de la ruta, así como en forma física dentro de la misma pista. Se debe de manejar a velocidades bajas en los poblados por donde pasará la ruta, se colocarán señalamientos digitales y físicos en la ruta, una milla antes de un poblado, y una milla después.

       El periodo de recorridos no es una carrera, se debe de manejar a velocidades moderadas, con lo que se pide que los corredores respeten las normas de tránsito y a los ciudadanos en todo momento, quienes rompan una regla de recorrido, con pruebas de por medio, o siendo reportados por oficiales de SCORE, se le aplicará castigos previos a la carrera por parte del Director de Carrera de SCORE, José Abelardo Grijalva.
LA CALIFICACIÓN METHOD RACE WHEELS
       Por sexta ocasión dentro de la historia de la popular carrera de “Spring Break”, SCORE llevará a cabo la Calificación Method Race Wheels, evento que se realizará el Jueves 26 de Marzo a partir de las 7 de la mañana, tiempo del Pacífico, para definir la “parrilla de salida” en las siguientes categorías, SCORE Trophy Trucks, SCORE Trophy Trucks 2WD, SCORE Trophy Trucks Legend, Clase 1 y Trophy Truck Spec.
        Los registros de corredores que se reciban después del Viernes 13 de Marzo, contarán con el siguiente espacio disponible en cada una de las categorías que estarán calificando. El orden de calificación será definirá en SCORE, de acuerdo a la fecha en que cada equipo llene su registro por internet.
        La Calificación Method Race Wheels es una actividad sin acceso a espectadores, evento que contará con una ruta en una propiedad privada, misma que no forma parte de la ruta oficial de la SCORE San Felipe 250.

REGISTROS PARA MEDIOS DE COMUNICACIÓN
      Los diferentes medios de comunicación pueden registrarse ya para la cobertura de la edición 39 de la King Shocks SCORE San Felipe 250, solo tienen que acceder al siguiente link, https://score-international.com/score-media/index.php, para llenar el formato de inscripción y ser parte de la cuarta fecha del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2026 de SCORE International.
       Se cuenta con un nuevo formato más amigable para el registro de los medios de comunicación, gracias a la visión de Jack Wright de nMedia3, buscando siempre la mayor atención posible para la prensa a lo largo de esta temporada de SCORE. La fecha límite para el registro en línea para la prensa es el Viernes 20 de Marzo.
        El Centro de Prensa de SCORE tendrá inscripciones en persona en el Hotel Stella del Mar de San Felipe, Baja California, México, el Miércoles 25 de Marzo de las 2 de la tarde a las 7 de la tarde, tiempo del Pacífico, Jueves 26 de Marzo de la 1 de la tarde a las 5 de la tarde, tiempo del Pacífico, y Viernes 27 de Marzo, de las 9 de la mañana a las 5 de la tarde, tiempo del Pacífico.

EL COMIENZO

      En 1982, el entonces propietario de SCORE, Sal Fish, decidió sumar una tercera carrera al calendario de SCORE en la península de Baja California, dando origen así a la SCORE San Felipe 250.

      La primera edición de la carrera, en 1982, contó con 232 equipos y 133 finalizaron en la popular competencia de “Spring Break”. El ganador en la categoría de vehículos Dan Cornwell, al volante de un buggy Chenowth con motor Volkswagen en la Clase 1. (Tras muchos años detrás del volante, Cornwell también se desempeñó durante varios años, hasta hace poco, como Director Técnico de SCORE International).

      En las motocicletas, el ganador de la edición inaugural de 1982 fue Bob Balentine, quien se impuso a bordo de una moto Honda XR500 en la Clase 22.

HISTORIA DE SCORE

       La empresa SCORE International original fue fundada en 1973 por el fallecido Mickey Thompson y estuvo dirigida por Sal Fish desde 1974 hasta que vendió SCORE International el 20 de Diciembre de 2012.

       SCORE continúa siendo la organización de carreras de desierto más importante del mundo. Las carreras de SCORE International incluyen categorías profesionales y sportmans para motos y carros, compitiendo en el Campeonato Mundial del Desierto, misma que cuenta con 4 fechas que son transmitidas en vivo a nivel mundial dentro de las diferentes plataformas de las redes sociales.
